2. Consider a problem in structural engineering, as shown in figure. Find the forces and
reactions associated with a statically determinant truss matrix operations

Question Two:

A civil engineer needs 4000, 5800, and 5500 m3 of sand, fine gravel, and coarse
gravel, respectively, at a construction site. There are three sources where these
materials can be obtained and the composition of the material from these sources is:
Sand %
Fine Gravel %
Coarse Gravel %

Use a direct method to get, how many cubic meters must be obtained from each source in
order to meet the engineers needs. Also, solve it again using iteration method and compare
between your results.
Question Three:

(20 marks)

1. Solve the following system of linear equations with Jacobis Method.

x + y + 7z = 6
4x y z = 3
2x + 6 y + z = 9

2. Find the solution to the following equations using the Gauss-Seidel method.
12 + 3 5 = 1
+ 5 + 3 = 28
3 + 7 + 13 = 76
Question Four:

(20 marks)

1. Use the Bisection method of finding roots of equations to solve

() = 6 4 1 = 0 . Start with the interval [1, 2]. Conduct five

iterations to estimate the root of the above equation.

2. Consider the function () = () 6. Use the Newton-Rapshon

method to evaluate a root of this function, with the following initial

approximations: 0.4 and 0.01.
Question Five:

A ball at 1200 K is allowed to cool down in air at an ambient temperature of 300 K.

Assuming heat is lost only due to radiation, the differential equation for the temperature of
the ball is given by

= 2.2067 1012 ( 4 81 108 ) ,

(0) = 1200

Where, is in K and t in seconds. Assume a step size of h 240 seconds. Find the
temperature at t 480 seconds using Runge-Kutta fourth order method. Also, solve it
again using Euler method.
Question Six:

(20 marks)

The upward velocity of a rocket is given as a function of time in Table.

1. Determine the value of the velocity at t=16 s using direct method
and a third order polynomial interpolation using direct method.
2. Determine the value of the velocity at t 16 seconds using
second order polynomial interpolation using Newtons divided
difference polynomial method.
