responsibilities, develop communication and problem solving skills and be
familiar with engineering design methodology.

Course Ground Rules

Following students handbook regulations.

1. Class Attendance:
a. Attendance will be taken 10 minutes after the beginning of the
class. If you come after 10 minutes, you can attend but you will be
recorded absent.
b. University regulations apply (allowing 25% absence). However,
students are responsible for all the material covered in class.
c. If you were absent during a quiz or an exam, the corresponding
grade will be recorded as zero. No makeup will be given except
with a medical excuse.

2. Plagiarism:
a. Your submitted assignments, quizzes and exams should reflect your own
work.
b. Any instance of cheating or copying in assignments will result in a grade
of zero in the whole assignment.
c. Any instance of cheating in an exam will be reported to the Departments
Head to consider formal actions.
d. Borrowing and sharing of resources during quizzes and exams will always
be forbidden. Make sure that you always have your pen, calculator and all
the required materials.
3. Cell Phones:
a. Before lectures, make sure to put your mobile phone on Silent or OFF.
b. Before exams, make sure that mobiles are turned OFF.
c. It will not be allowed to use cell phones as calculators in any quiz or exam.

Defeats and Obstacles

College is tough and engineering is toughest.
Many Challenges such as exams, homework's, projects, Labs,
Grades, etc.
No one to help No Parents, No Friends (as they will be in the
same situation).
You will develop the skills necessary to face new challenges.
If you take the challenges positively, you will enjoy the college
life like nothing else.
You will be strong and Independent.

Manage Your Time

Working within the schedule is challenging.
In college, most of the materials are presented at a much faster pace.

You will be expected to learn much of the material at your own.

How can you accomplish this and survive.

You must change your learning strategy and become more

Manage Your Money

College is expensive i.e. fees, cars, textbooks, etc.

You must budget your money.

Resist the temptation to spend it while you have got it.
Divide the lump into weekly expenses and track expenses.
Try to save 10-20% of the pocket money. It is a good habit and
will help you during a long run.

Get Along With People

To be a successful, engineers must work together in teams.
In college, study groups, projects teams are some examples.
The socialization skills will help when you go to work in a company.

It is possible that during your job you not only work with engineers
but also with other peoples such as workers, accountants.
It is highly essential for you to get along with all which actually help
you to gain success.

Must Stay Healthy

Eat well balanced food, take your meals at regular time intervals, your
meal should include nutritious food such as vegetables, fruits, etc. Stop
eating snacks anytime, stop oily and fatty food.

Maintain your exercise routine. It will help you towards sleep, stay alert
during those long afternoon classes, you will feel more active and fresh.

Sleep well. It will help you to regain your strength. At least sleep 7-8
hours per day and night sleep is far more relaxing than a day nap.

The Classroom
The common problem is that the bright high school students, are often
just average in the college population. Some students adjust to this rally,
however some dont know how to proceed.
Do not apply the high school learning habit to college life. They wont
be enough to achieve success. You should generate new and improved
learning strategies.
Professors expect adult behavior from your side. eg. You should submit
homework on time, should attend exams, etc.
Get to know your professors better. Use the office hours provided to get
more information about the class. You may find their research
interesting and can push you to pursue further higher education such as
masters and PhD.

Create A Good Environment

Environment greatly affect the speed at which you can learn
Be sure room is not too hotit will make you sleep
Dont lie in bed to study. it will make you sleep
Use a straight backed chair at a desk..
Be sure there is adequate lighting..
Quiet surrounding is good..no distractionsthey will reduce the
learning speed
Students can use library or other quiet places..

You wont see your professor much often..
Lecture material is presented only once..
Best way is to prepare yourself ahead of the class.
If you arrive already with the material..you can see what your
professor is emphasizes, that can be most valuable for exams
