Ethiopia Water Supply, Sanitation and

Hygiene Project
OVERVIEW
The objective of the Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project (WaSH) is 'to
increase access to improved water supply and sanitation services for residents
in participating woredas/towns and communities in Ethiopia.' There are three
components to the project, the first component being rural water supply,
sanitation and hygiene. This component aims to improve access to water
supply and sanitation services, and to promote improved hygiene in rural
areas. The component will finance the following activities: (i) construction and
rehabilitation of community water supply schemes in participating woredas and
communities; and (ii) construction and rehabilitation of institutional water and
sanitation facilities in schools and health facilities in participating woredas and
communities. The second component is the urban water supply, sanitation and
hygiene. This component aims to improve access to water supply and
sanitation services in urban areas (small and medium towns), and to
strengthen the capacity of WaSH officials to plan and manage these services in
a sustainable manner. Finally, the third component is the project management
monitoring and evaluation. This component aims to support and build the
capacity of WaSH agencies at federal, regional, and local government levels to
plan, implement, and manage water supply and sanitation services under their
jurisdiction
