There was a presentation of the writings on Beauty.

I ask, what is Beauty? Is Beauty seen or felt? How will you draw a beautiful face? When you look
at some people, you like them in a certain pose. For example, they are beautiful when they stand still in
silence; but when they laugh, they become ugly. It is just the opposite for some others they are beautiful
when they laugh, and ugly when they are silent. How will you explain this: imagine a round, ball-shaped
face with small eyes close to the nose. Is this face beautiful? It is not. Is a face beautiful, if the eyes are
remote from the nose? It is not beautiful either. What will you say then about a big, round face with big or
small ears? Again, you will say that it is not beautiful. What should be the size of the ears be? Your likes
and dislikes show that you have a certain inner measure or a scale for estimating things. So, in each case
the important thing is not what the different authors said about Beauty, but what your inner understanding
is. The view of the different authors will serve just as an explanation and addition to your view.

People long for Beauty, they perceive Beauty, but if you ask them what Beauty is, what its outside
outer features are, they will not tell you anything in particular. A beautiful face is this the one that will
maintain its basic features in all conditions of Life. Whether sad or joyful, serious or gay, the its basic
features will always remain the same. If ones eyes are small and close to the nose, this is an indication of
weak impressionability. Small eyes are a sign of parsimony. Large eyes are a sign of wastefulness. In
other words, persons with small eyes are poor; persons with large eyes are rich, that is why they can
spend and waste their wealth with an easy hand.

In conclusion, a beautiful face is this the one in, which the parts are fully proportional and
correctly related. For example, a forehead, a nose and a chin should represent respectively one third of
the whole face. More over, the facial form should not be completely round, but somehow pear-shaped and
pointed. When you see a very round face, it is due to a certain quantity of fat s, accumulated around the
chin. A face loses its beauty as a result of this excess fats. All people of our age long for Beauty, but only
after its outside outer manifestation. The visible outside outer beauty created great evils in the world.
Beauty should be inner, not outsideouter. IThe inner beauty is expressed in plastic vivid faces of inner
depth and sensitivity and nobleness of the soul. The curved lines should be predominant over the straight
lines on a beautiful face. Straight lines show that electricity prevails in a certain person; curved lines are
an indication of magnetism. Some persons have beautiful foreheads, but their ears and chins are not
beautiful. One shall use the measure of Nature - strictly determined in mathematical and geometrical
aspect in order to define which forehead, which nose, mouth, chin, beard and ears are correct in size
and beautiful in form.

Those who try to lead a beautiful inner life will also acquire that Beauty on their faces. For
example, nobleness, purity and tenderness give softness and clearness to ones eyes. If the personal
feelings are predominant in someone, it will give serenity to ones eyes, but this serenity will be deprived
of the soft element. The eyes will be rough and still. As a whole, eyes play an important role in ones life.
That is why, if a negative thought visits your mind, if a bitter or rough feeling visits your heart, make do
your best as disciples to get rid of them. Take the hammer in your hand, cut and chisel them as a mastered
sculptor, process them until they are fully softened. You need great self-control for this. Not only
students, but also teachers also need self-control. Contemporary teachers in music are cross, when their
students sing false tunes. If teachers could preserve their self-control and presence of spirit, they would
easily correct their students. Under the influence of such a calm attitude, even the poorest among them
would be able to correct his voice and singing in a lovely way. If the teacher gets angry, the tunes of the
students will be shortened and the singing will be false.

When I am speaking about Beauty now, I have in mind the human soul that is beautiful by itself.
Beauty of the soul, by all means, should be poured out in some form by all means. Every form is much
more beautiful, when it is closer to Truth. For example, your essays on Beauty are good in expression.
But they are not so good in content, in their inner meaning and sense, because they do not contain Truth
in them. The first requirement for disciples is to give place to Truth in themselves. Everything, consisting
of Truth without any additions, exaggerations and cuttings from it, is beautiful.

I will give you a few rules in order to know how to write your themes. Calm down completely
before you start writing. When your work is ready, read it aloud to see how it sounds to you. Moreover,
observe the effect it exercises over your mind and your sympathetic system. It is well done, if it
effectsaffects both these both systems harmoniously. Read your essay two or three times to make sure
that it sounds good. If it sounds good to you, it will sound good to others too. And on the opposite if it
does not sound well good to you, it will not satisfy others, too. Disciples are required to present well
sounding works that sound good and , that which are pleasant for listening. Each text that is pleasant and
well soundingsounds good to you, will be also be good for us to listen to.

Learn also to write briefly, but clearly and conceptually. When we have time, I will give you an
example with an idea, expressed in three different forms, so that you may see which form is the best one.
It will also be the most beautiful one. Therefore, each idea could be expressed in three different ways. It
is good for you to read beautiful descriptions, so that your sense of the beautiful and the fine would can
be developed. The Bible story of Joseph is beautiful and it is good for everyone to read it.

Now, I will give you an example with an idea, expressed in three different forms. This is the idea
of Life. I say, Light brings Life, Love brings Life, Truth brings Life. In this case, what Life does Light
bring? What Life does Love bring? What Life does Truth bring? Can Truth bring Life directly? Certainly,
there is some difference between Life, brought respectively by Light, Love and Truth. Consequently, the

object of Truth is Freedom, the object of Light is Knowledge and the object of Love is Life. When we say
that Light brings Life, we consider that Light is a requisite for humans to study. They should have Love
as well, to be able to study. Therefore, Light calls in the Life of Knowledge, in order to give Freedom to
humans. Truth too calls in Life.

In conclusion, when you write your essays in the future, you should read them aloud several times
aloud and correct them, if you dislike something. When you read your work aloud and it sounds well
good to you, you will see that it will be appreciated in class too. Write down slowly, patiently, without
hurrying.
The spiritual science demands geometrical accuracy from disciples. The sheets of paper you will
use can be small or big according to your preference, but regular in form. They can be triangular,
rectangular or others, but obligatory regular in form. Your works should be written in neat and beautiful
handwriting. It is not enough only to speak about Beauty, but also to act in a beautiful way. Many of you
will start writing beautifully and legibly, but at the end their handwriting will become nervous and
unreadable. This shows that they are not in compliance with themselves and also that they have some
weak points. Fight with your vices until you overcome them.

I say, remember all the rules I gave you for good writing I gave you, and apply them. You should
know that each thought, feeling and action of yours, never mind good or bad, are imprinted in your
consciousness and influence your life. Thus, from the ugly and negative things you will realize what is
beautiful, high and positive in Life.
