University 1
School of Agriculture (diploma program)
School of Art (Fine Arts studio degree programs)
School of Art (Fine Arts diploma program)

Marcel A. Desaultels Faculty of Music
This Guide also provides information for high school students seeking direct
admission to any of the following programs:
Faculty of Agricultural & Food Sciences
Asper School of Business
School of Dental Hygiene

Faculty of Science
These programs also accept transfer applications. Information and application material for transfer students, for these and other University of Manitoba
undergraduate programs, are available on our website.
2. Use the paper Direct Entry Application Form only if you are unable to
apply using the on-line application form available at umanitoba.ca/apply now.
On-line applications can be processed quicker than paper applications.
3. Entrance requirements, starting terms, and deadlines are listed on
page 2-4 of this Guide. If you miss the requirements or deadline for your preferred option, please check with the Admissions Office for advice and alternate
suggestions. Information for advanced entry options are found on our website.
The application deadline is the date for the application to be completed online, or post-marked, or received in-person at the Admissions Office. The
application fee must accompany the application to be considered submitted by
the deadline.
4. High school subject prerequisites: Some University of Manitoba undergraduate courses, particularly mathematics and science courses, will have
specific high school courses as prerequisites to register in these courses. These
prerequisites may not be required for admission to the direct entry program,
but are required for course registration. If students have not completed the necessary high school courses, they can complete a preparatory upgrading course
at U of M. See our website for listings of these high school prerequisites.

other than English, you must meet the English Language proficiency requirement as
detailed on page 4.
8. Indigenous / Aboriginal Peoples Information in Section 8 of the Application
is collected to assist the University in meeting its commitment to recruit and retain
Indigenous students from Canada and the United States. This declaration will also
be used by the Financial Aid & Awards Office for awards selection purposes. The
declaration is voluntary except where students are requesting consideration for a.)
Indigenous-specific financial awards and/or b.) Special consideration into a faculty
based on Indigenous identity. In these cases, verification of ancestry will be required.
An Indigenous person is a member of a Canadian First Nation, Mtis, or Inuit
Community, or is an American Indian. Canadian First Nation or American Indian
includes Status, Treaty, or Registered Indians as well as Non-Status, and NonRegistered Indians.
The University of Manitoba is committed to the principle of merit and the equitable
participation and success of under-represented groups such as women, Indigenous
peoples, members of visible minority groups, persons with disabilities, and persons
who traditionally have not had the opportunity for university studies because of economic, social, cultural reasons, lack of formal education or residence in remote areas.
9. Email and mailing addresses: It is important to check your email/mail on a
regular basis and to keep these addresses up to date. You will receive a notice of the
admission decision after all documentation is received, assessed and an admission
decision is made. Some faculties hold selection meetings in middle to late spring and
applicants must wait for the results of these meetings.
10. Student Residences: To apply for on-campus accommodation, use the online
form or download the paper form on the Student Residences website (umanitoba.
ca/student/housing). Apply early as spaces fill up quickly; you do not need to be accepted for admission to apply for residence.

11. Entrance scholarships: You will be considered automatically for most entrance
scholarships if you apply for admission by the deadline (see chart on page 2). The
requirements for an entrance scholarship are more rigorous than the requirements for
admission. For complete information on these and other scholarship possibilities, see
Financial Aid & Awards at umanitoba.ca/student/awards.
12. Offers of admission: If you are offered admission to a program other than
University 1, Engineering, or General Studies, you may be required to confirm
your acceptance of the offer of admission with the Admissions Office to finalize the
process. You will receive details on how to confirm the acceptance of your offer with
your formal offer of admission. Students accepting offers of admission to the School
of Art will be asked to submit a $100 tuition deposit to confirm their acceptance.

5. Direct Entry application fees: The non-refundable application fee must

accompany your application. Canadian citizens/Permanent Residents: $80.00
(CDN) and International students: $110.00 (CDN).

13. Alternate choice of program: If your application for Direct Entry admission
is unsuccessful, you will automatically be considered for admission to an alternate
program (University 1 or General Studies).

6. Required documentation: You will receive an acknowledgement letter

or email detailing required documentation within a few days of the receipt
of your application by the Admissions Office. Make note of your Admission
Officers name and contact information, and your U of M ID and Applicant
Numbers for any future questions about your application.

If you wish to be considered for an alternate choice other than University 1 or General Studies, you must complete a second application form (online or paper) and pay a
second application fee. The second application must be submitted by the appropriate
application deadline. You do not need to wait for the admission decision on your first
choice to apply for an alternate program.

Current Manitoba and NW Ontario high school students who apply for admission by May 1, 2012 will have their marks submitted automatically by their
high schools. All other applicants must request their schools to forward official
mark statements, including proof of graduation, to the Admissions Office.
Official transcripts are required of any college or university attendance, with
the exception of University of Manitoba transcripts.

14. Courier service: If your application is approved and you are an international
applicant residing outside of Canada/USA, your acceptance letter will be sent by
courier. A charge of $70 CDN will be added to your student account for this service.
If you applied with the help of an educational representative/agent who has a signed
agreement with the University, this fee will be waived.

Photocopies are not accepted. It is recommended that original documents be

sent by registered mail or courier to prevent loss. Original documents, such
as marriage or birth certificates, will be returned to applicants. Other original

advisor appointments will also receive information as necessary.
16. Course registration: Registration for courses is usually completed online
through the Aurora Student system on the U of M website. More information on
registration can be found on the Registrars Office website
