Abstract
Objectives: To give hierarchy to the creation and
development of the mother-child bond during natural
breastfeeding, to recognize the prolonged breastfeeding
not only within the health staff but also among the
community, and to consider breatfeeding and bondness
as tools so as to work in the prevention and promotion of
maternal-infantile health. Development: breastfeeding
is much more than a way to feed babies and to connect
emotionally with them. Above all, it is a choice of the
future based on the past, making mankind more human,
strengthening the affective, familiar and social bonds.
The fondness that starts during birth creates a special
affective bond between the mother and the new born,
which favors breastfeeding. Women are aware of the
benefits of natural breastfeeding, stressing the
importance of the affective bond; however, it is
sometimes difficult to put it into practice due to different
causes and influences. Conclusion: the health team staff
must protect breastfeeding; they do not have to interfere
in the mother/child bond and they have to educate
women on the benefits of prolonged breastfeeding.
Key words: prolonged breastfeeding - fondness
