The Seven Deadly Sins of Macbeth

"Sin creates [an inclination] to sin; it engenders vice by repetition

of the same acts. This results in perverse inclinations which cloud
conscience and corrupt the concrete judgment of good and evil.
Thus sin tends to reproduce itself and reinforce itself, but it cannot
destroy the moral sense at its root."

The Seven Deadly Sins are really attitudes that underlie sins,
whether mortal or venial, first identified by St. John Cassian (360 -
435) and refined by Pope St. Gregory the Great (540 - 604). They
provide keys to understanding our faults (and the actions that
result from our faults) as a framework for self-knowledge. If we
understood how they factor into who we have become, we would
understand much more about ourselves and our effect on others.
The Seven Deadly Sins never occur as a list in the Bible, but occur
many times individually with reference to religion.

The 7 Deadly (or Capital) Sins are:

Greed: a sin of excess. Greed roughly means a very excessive
desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power.
Gluttony: Gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption
of anything to the point of waste.
Lust: Lust or lechery, is usually thought of as excessive thoughts
or desires of a sexual nature.
Sloth: believed to be the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts.
Wrath: also known as anger or "rage", may be described as
inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger.
Envy: Envy may be characterized by an insatiable desire; those
who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has
something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other
person to be deprived of it.
Pride: identified as a desire to be more important or attractive
than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and
excessive love of self.
