Plan
Coad Alexandra Delia
LMAFE Anul II

Date: 20th April 2015

School: CN Jean Monnet - Ploieti
Grade: 7th Grade
Level: B1 (Intermediate)
No. of students: 30
Time: 12 minutes
Type of lesson: Systematization and Revision of Knowledge
Topic: Talking About the Future

Aims:
1. Cognitive:
a. General:
to understand correct English;
to speak correct English by using sentences;
b. Specific:
to apply the knowledge and skills acquired up to the present during a continuous learning
process;
to recognize the mistakes within the given sentences;
to corectly restate the sentences which contain grammar mistakes;
2. Emotional:
to encourage the students to express themselves by using the future tense forms in everyday
situations.
Students anticipated problems: the students may encounter some dificulties in identifying the
mistakes in the future tense forms within the given sentences.
Possible solutions to them: to try to avoid this problem a diagram representing the four main forms of
the future tenses will be handed to each student at the begining of the activity.
Types of interactions: T > S; T > Ss; S > T; S > S
Teaching techniques: learning through play, class discussion, explanation, demonstration
Materials: diagrams (representing the four main forms of the future), coloured strips of paper (to be
used in the auction game), a list of the sentences (to be used in the auction game), whiteboard,
coloured markers.

Student(s)

The teacher gives to each

student a set of handouts
following this diagram as an
example:

1. Cognitive
a. General
b. Specific

Time

The Ss listen
attentively to T.

10
minutes

This diagram illustrates the four

main forms of the future that Ss
are familiar with.
The T hands them a table filled
in with a set of situations, in
wich these future tense forms
can be used (Annex 1).

Timetabled events, e.g. TV

programme
or
train
departure;
Personal arrangements;
Predictions (when you can
see the evidence);
Predictions (based on no
evidence);
General future intentions
(not arranged);
Decisions made at the time
of speaking;
Promises;
Decisions already made;
Offers, refusals.

The T explains the Ss that the

handout may help them with the
activity that is to follow next.
1. The T puts the Ss into
groups of three or four.
2. Then she introduces the
idea of an auction,
including words such as
auction, item, lot, bid.

T > Ss
T>S
The
Ss
form
groups of three or
four.
The Ss are writing
the definitions of
the given words:
auction, item, lot,
bid.

2. Emotional

Auction = a public occasion

when things are sold to the
people who offers the most
money on it.
Item = an individual thing
included in a list.
Lot = an item, or a group of
items that are to be sold.
Bid = to offer a particular
amount
of
money
for
something.
3. After that, the T tells
the Ss they are going to
attend an auction and
bid
for
english
sentences to talk about
the future. They must
only bid for sentences
they
think
are
grammatically correct.
Also, the winners are
those who buy the most
correct sentences. In the
event of a tie, the
victory is determined
by who has most money
left.
4. The T hands out each
pair a list of sentences
(Annex 2) and asks the
Ss to study them to
decide
which
are
correct, i.e. which they
want to buy, and why
they are right or wrong.
Also, the Ss are not
allowed
to
them
broadcast their choices
or share answers with
other teams.
The sentences:
1. Im going to eat at my
friends house this
evening.
2. Look at that man on the
roof. Hell fall!
3. These black clouds tell
4

The Ss listen
attentively, and, if
necessary,
they
ask T questions
for
further
information.

The Ss within
each group decide
upon
which
sentences
they
want to bid for
and which ones
are right or wrong
and why.

T > Ss

me its going to rain.

4. The train will leave at
seven oclock.
5. Next Sunday I will play
golf with my friend.
6. Italy will win the World
Cup this year.
7. Im washing my hair
tonight.
8. This year Im going to
read more.
9. What will you do
tonight?
10. Im never smoking
again.
11. I go to university next
year.

The T has her copy of

the sentences each on a
individual strip of
paper, that becomes
individual items in the
auction.

The Ss listen
attentively.

5. Then, the T allocates

each
group
$500,
reminding them that
they should buy only
sentences that they
believe to be correct
and that they can only
increase bids in $5
The Ss deduct
increments.
money after each

starting each item at $5.
T also remembers each
team to deduct money

their
sentences
When all the sentences have which are to be
been sold, T asks each group to checked together
count their sentences and then with the T.
she begins checking the
sentences by asking the group
with least to start.
