How to passively record footage for those cool trickshots you want to save.
Hello, here's a guide on how to record Minecraft gameplay with OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software using Windows (Vista, 7, 8,
8.1). Similar settings will be used for the Mac version, however the location of these settings may be different. This is for those
looking for the ability to record gameplay or evidence footage easily and with configurable options.
First off, you will need to download OBS/. Once installed, you will see a window like this:
In order to begin, right click in the scenes box, and choose "Add scene". Enter a name for this scene, it can be anything you want.
Once the scene is created, you will need to add a source. Right click in the source box and choose "Add >". Then choose "Game
capture". At this point, you will need to open Minecraft. Once in the game capture, dialogue, you will see this:

Make sure to have Minecraft selected, all the other settings can be left at default. Hit OK. Now we need to configure the video
settings. Hit the "Settings" button to the right of the Sources box. I will provide multiple examples of different configurations for
different types of videos.
In order to achieve small file sizes, use the following settings:

Hit OK, and you're done. Make sure to note the path your video will be recorded to. Now, go to Minecraft, hit F9 (or whatever key
you set to start the recording) and hit it again when you wish to stop recording. The following will achieve a video quality such as
this:
This is ideal for evidence for report and low file size recording. A 1 minute video will only have a file size of about 2.5 MB, which

I have Camtasia Studio 8, and the MP4 file is not importing properly. Instead of having to transfer the file type for each type, is there
an alternative for this, like changing the video codec or output file type? IIRC, the editing software works with importing MP4's as
long as the video codec is H.264.
Thanks in advance!

Check the OP, you need to create a scene with the directions there.

This happened to me. Try doing a monitor capture. Should fix your problems; however, you may want to crop out your taskbar.

You need to specify a path that exists. OBS cannot create folders and will create an error if you try to use a path that doesn't exist.
For testing purposes, make a folder on your desktop or videos folder and tell OBS to record to that path.

OK but when I try to select the folder, it doesn't allow me to. It opens up the folder as if I'm saving something into it

Open the folder and hit select, that's what should be happening.

I was considering using this, does it record mics and what's the average file size for a 720p video?
