ACCHE DINA DA KATU SATHYA

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government rode to power one year ago on promises
of Development and Ache Din for all. However, within a year, popular
disillusionment has set in and these promises are being widely perceived to be
shallow, masking a deeper agenda of dismantling the mandate of social justice and
democracy enshrined in the Indian Constitution, and replacing it with a corporatefascist regime.
A number of ominous tendencies have marked Narendra Modi's one-year rule:
Rise of corporate power through an aggressive pursuit of economic reforms
that in effect hand over the country's resources to corporates. This is
producing destitution on a large scale, as reflected, to take just one example,
in the increasing incidence of distress suicides by farmers.
Communalisation of Indian polity and society and spreading of social hatred
through systematic attacks against Muslims and Christians all over the
country, and forcible conversions into Hinduism of destitutes among lowercastes and Adivasis, all with the avowed aim of turning the country into
Hindu Rashtra through brute force, intimidation and violence.
Privatisation of the state apparatus in which government departments are
becoming a stamping agency for corporate expansion.
Subversion of democratic and parliamentary institutions as well as the
judiciary by concentrating all powers in the Centre, the Prime Minister's
Office in particular. Any dissenting opinion about Development, for instance,
is sought to be muzzled in various ways.
It must be remembered that the foundation for many of these tendencies, especially
in the areas of governance and public policy, were laid down in UPA-II under
Manmohan Singh. The Congress government in Karnataka, for instance, is guilty of
following a policy of land acquisition similar in intent to Modi's land legislation.
One year of Modi's governance has exposed the truth behind his Acche Din. The
country must be reclaimed by its people, who are fast losing their right to their
labour, their land and even their conscience.
It is with this in mind that a number of groups and individuals are coming together
to call for a RALLY ON JUNE 6 FROM MYSORE BANK TO TOWN HALL. We are
planning a week-long series of events at various venues.

June 01: Public meeting addressed by Prof. Hargopal on Saffronisation of Public
Education and New Education Policy of the NDA government; 5pm at Radio Active
Hall, Palace Road
June 02: Public Meeting on the assault on Public Health by the NDA government;
2.30pm , at SCM House, Mission Road and protest at Town hall against the new
national Health Policy at 4.30pm by Karnataka Janarogya Chaluvali
June 03: Protest against Juvenile Justice Bill and Child Labour amendments (coordinated by Ondede)@4.30pm in front of Town Hall
June 05: Human Chain and Discussion on Environment by Greenpeace; 11am at
St.Josephs College of Arts and Science, Langford Road
Jun 06: Rally from Mysore Bank at 3pm; Public Meeting in front of Town Hall at
4.30pm
