Deliver ceiling units to project site in original, unopened packages and store them in a fully
enclosed space where they will be protected against damage from moisture, direct sunlight,
surface contamination or other causes.
C.
Handle ceiling units carefully to avoid chipping edges or damaging units in any way. Damaged
tiles will not be accepted.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
Conform to applicable code for fire rated assembly and combustibility requirements for
materials.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Maintain environmental temperature and humidity within the range required by the
manufacturer during and after installation.
SEQUENCING
A.
B.
Sequence work to ensure acoustical ceilings are not installed until building is enclosed, dust
generating activities have terminated, and overhead work is completed, tested and approved.
1.13
EXTRA MATERIALS
A.
B.
Provide 5% of installed area or 20 m2, whichever is lesser, of each ceiling tile to Owner.
1.14
COORDINATION
A.
B.
Coordinate work of this section with installation of mechanical and electrical components and
with other construction activities affected by work of this Section.
C.
Furnish concrete inserts, clip other supports required to be installed by other trades for support
of acoustical ceilings in advance of time needed for coordination of other work.
D.
Measure each ceiling area and establish layout of ceiling units to balance border widths at
opposite edges of each ceiling. Avoid use of less-than-half width units at borders, and comply
with reflected ceiling plans wherever possible.

PRODUCTS
MATERIALS
A.
Colors, Textures, and Patterns: Provide products to match appearance characteristics indicated
or, if not otherwise indicated, as selected by the Engineer from manufacturer's standard colors,
surface textures, and patterns available for ceiling units and exposed metal suspension system
members of quality designated. Materials and systems shall be as shown on the Drawings and
Schedules.
B.
All materials shall be suitable for use in high humidity environmental conditions.
C.
No fibre board or rockwool based board or similar material allowed for ceiling panels.
D.
E.
Suspension Wire: ASTM A 641, Class 1 hanger wire, zinc coating, soft temper, for suspended
and furred ceilings, not less than 2.7 mm.
F.
Carrying Channels: 38 mm, 1.6 mm cold-rolled channels painted with rust inhibitive paint.
G.
H.
I.
Space Closures: Recessed, formed metal sections, colored black or as approved by Engineer,
snap fit between exposed linear panels.
J.
Access Panel: Matching hinged panel/with frameless appearance, swinging downward, with
spring latch.
PART 3:
EXECUTION
A.
Examine conditions at the job site where work of this section is to be performed to ensure
proper arrangement and fit of the work.
B.
Starting of work shall imply acceptance of supporting construction and temperature and
humidity conditions as satisfactory.

INSTALLATION
A.
B.
Verify all measurements and dimensions at the project site and coordinate work with the work
of other trades, with particular attention given to the work of mechanical and electrical trades.
C.
Anchorages and fastenings shall be secure and adequate for use intended. Ceilings shall be
erected in rigid and secure manner, level, with tight joints and free from waves, buckles and
sags.
D.
Hang carrying members independent of walls, columns, ducts, light fixtures, pipe and conduit.
Where carrying members are spliced, avoid visible displacement of face panels with adjacent
panels.
E.
Make all exposed surfaces of acoustical units level and flush, with all joints straight and true.
Neatly cut and fit units around light fixtures and around other items protruding through
ceilings. Install all exposed members with flush hairline joints.
F.
Factory drill ceiling tile occurring at hidden loudspeakers and fire alarm gongs.
G.
Center tile or board pattern both directions in each major space or room as shown or directed
and, where possible, adjust pattern so that edge pieces will be not less than 6.3 mm unit in
width.
H.
Run grain of units in one direction, as shown or directed, and align joints in both directions
unless otherwise shown.
I.
Use procedures that will minimize damage or soiling of the units during installation. Replace
units which are damaged or cannot be adequately cleaned as directed.
J.
Provide tabs at access tiles to designate locations of required access, for all non-accessible
ceilings.
K.
Openings shall be framed for support of collateral items such as lighting fixtures and access
units and shall be framed for support of or to fit around ventilating devices, as required for the
units specified. These items described in other sections of the specifications.

deflection in excess of 1/360 of the span between supports. Level accurately in both directions,
leveling to a tolerance of 3 mm in 3 m.
B.
Install suspension systems with hangers supported only from building structural members.
Locate hangers not less than 150 mm from each end and spaced 1.2 m maximum along each
carrying channel or runner. Coordinate spacing of hangers, carrying channels, runners and
molding with the location of electrical fixtures, sprinkler heads, and other items occurring in or
on the ceiling. Splay hangers only where required to miss obstructions and offset horizontal
force by bracing or other approved methods.
C.
Where ceilings are suspended below ductwork, piping or other building elements which are not
suitable for ceiling attachment due to strength limitations, restrictions of authorities having
jurisdiction, or ceiling system manufacturer's limitations, provide additional supplemental
framing, supports and related work as required to span beneath these elements from suitable
support locations. Design supplemental framing and supports to accommodate the spans and
loads to be sustained and to limit maximum deflections to the criteria specified and to finish to
the lines and levels shown.
D.
Coordinate with mechanical and electrical installers in locating and spacing fixtures, diffusers,
and similar items located in ceiling.
E.
Lay out pattern in compliance with reflected ceiling plans. Where not otherwise indicated, lay
out in such manner that margins on opposite sides of rooms are equal or greater than 1/2 tile in
width.
F.
Carrying channel runners shall be place 1.2 m on center, tied to hangers. Install cross channels
as required between main channels, cut in flush and secure to longitudinal channels where
necessary to accommodate design of ceilings.
3.03
ERECTION TOLERANCES
A.
B.
C.
Maximum Variation from Plumb of Grid Members Caused by Eccentric Loads: 2 degrees.
D.
3.04
CLEANING
A.
B.
Clean exposed surfaces of ceilings, including trim, edge moldings, and suspension members;
comply with manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and touch-up of minor finish damage.
Remove and replace work which cannot be successfully cleaned and repaired to permanently
eliminate evidence of damage.
