HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe
electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E or CSA Z462.
This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified
electrical personnel.
Qualified electrical personnel must perform work in accordance with all
applicable national and local electrical codes.
Perform such work only after reading and understanding all of the
instructions contained in this bulletin.
Follow all safety procedures defined in NFPA 70E, CSA Z462, and
OSHA 1910.331-35, as well as those established by your specific
location.
Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside
equipment.
Assume that all circuits are live until they have been completely
de-energized, tested, locked out, and/or tagged out (per OSHA
1910.147). Pay particular attention to the design of the power system.
Consider all sources of power, including the possibility of backfeeding.
Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is
off.
Replace all devices, doors, and covers before turning on power to this
equipment.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or
serious injury.
Special Safety Note: The TeSys U device in 6-inch MCC starter units have
line powered connections to provide control power during trip modes for the
6-inch unit. Turning the main disconnect OFF will NOT de-energize the
terminals on the line side terminals (#57 and #67) of the LUA8E20 module's
control connections. Refer to document no. S1A2587 and the Danger
message below for more details.
DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC
SHOCK, EXPLOSION OR

Terminals on line side remain
energized after turning device
handle to OFF position.
Disconnect ALL power to this equipment
before servicing.
Failure to follow these instructions will
result in death or serious injury.

UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
Before operating the TeSys U starter:
Read and understand TeSys U multifunction user guide (document
number 1743237) before changing any parameters from the factory
defaults.
Refer to the parameter setting listed in Table 5 on page 18 and
additional documentation provided with the unit.
If the TeSys U starter is re-initialized using the total or partial factory
setting function, the starter must be reprogrammed to the values listed
in the wiring diagram shipped with the unit.
If the starter or the multifunction control module of the starter is
replaced, the starter must be reprogrammed according the wiring
diagram shipped with the unit and the programming instructions in the
TeSys U Multifunction User Guide (document number 174323702).
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious
injury.

If Compac 6 control units have been removed from the structure, reinstall
them when maintenance work on them is complete. For control unit
replacement, follow these instructions:
1. Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside
the equipment, and follow lockout/tagout procedures. Always use a
properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm the power is off.
2. Ensure that the operator handle of the control unit is in the OFF (O)
position.
3. Place the control unit into the structure in the proper location.
Figure 17:
4. Position the mounting slides of the control unit onto the slots of the
midshelf.
5. Slide the unit inward until the unit is halfway in, then move it inward with
a quick push at the location noted in Figure 17. This quick movement
allows the unit stabs to achieve enough force to plug the stabs into the
vertical bus.
NOTE: The interlock is spring loaded and engages automatically when
the control unit is inserted with a firm push to the handle interlock flange.
Pressing the structure interlock release is not necessary.
6. Retrieve the pull-apart terminal block from the vertical wire trough
through the wiring port.
7. Connect the pull-apart terminal block to the control unit. If necessary,
remove the control panel. Replace the control panel when the
connection is made.
8. Refer to the termination tags placed during the removal of the control
unit (Step 7 on page 22) to properly connect the power wiring to the
starter terminals.

To reassemble the MCC after testing and maintenance, follow these steps.
1. Reinstall all units by reversing Steps 112 in the section Removing the
