Generator Lube Oil System Pre-Commissioning


GENERAL GUIDELINES

Purpose/Scope
This work package encompasses all

requirements for commissioning, both


mechanically and electrically, the GLO
system which starts and ends at the GLO
Sump and includes the generator piping,
Generator Lube Oil Skid and generator
side of the fin-fan coolers.
Precautions
All personnel who will be working with, on, or around
lube oil associated with this system should review the
appropriate MSDS sheets. Adequate protective clothing
should always be worn when handling wastes
distributed by this system.
Proper care should be given to the transportation,
disposal, and handling of hazardous wastes. Refer to all
company guidelines and procedures when working with
wastes from this system.

Special Tooling - Equipment


Flushing kit with pump, hoses and fittings
Calibration equipment
Digital multimeter and signal generator
Hand held pressure pump (up to 1500 psi or above,
vacuum to 30 in-Hg required, standard oil-filled
pump OK)
All vendor-supplied interface instruments (HART,
Yokogawa, etc.)

MECHANICAL CHECKS
1.

Check level switch for proper installation.

2.

Check instrument valves and supply shut off valves for full travel and correct
position. Secure where applicable.

3.

Inspect lube oil tank and suction strainers for cleanliness.

4.

Ensure drain valve is locked in closed position and blind flange/cap is installed.

5.

Fill system with specified mineral lube oil to a level that is sufficient for flushing.
When finished, lock fill cap.

6.

Energize lube oil tank heater and thermostat.

7.

Test thermostat operation.

8.

Flush system in accordance with flushing procedures (Field Flushing Generator


Lube Oil System).

9.

Upon completion of flushing, verify system piping has been reinstated for normal
operation.

10.

Open, clean and inspect rundown tanks. Check level switches for bent rods on
floats.

11.

Install clean filter elements in filter assemblies.

12.

Check for oil leaks.

13.

Return thermostat to correct temperature in accordance with F&ID.


ELECTRICAL CHECKS

14.

Inspect for visible damage to any cable or termination.

15.

Check for adequate distance between power, control, and instrument cables.

16.

Check conductor connections at both ends; identification labels should be attached


to each conductor.

17.

Verify size and current capacity of conductors is suitable for application.

18.

Check means of cable protection against mechanical damage at points where cables
leave cable trays or enter package.

19.

Check grounding connections.


INSTRUMENTATION CHECKS

20.

Perform Point-To-Point checks using packaged supplied interconnect drawings.


Highlight drawing accordingly and insert signed copy in this section.

21.

Check and verify operation of analog and discrete readouts.

22.

Verify ranges and set points for all instrumentation listed in attachment (GLO
Instrumentation Sheet). Mark each instrument as calibrated or verified in the
appropriate column.

23.

Check functioning of control switches.
