Holiday Outreach Recap Bike Ministry Update

Spirit of JOY was able to provide 300 turkeys at
Thanksgiving and 250 hams at Christmas at Harvest of
Hope as well as providing toys and candy for the
children. SoJ members also provided gifts for 104
children from Lawton Chiles Elementary, our No School
Left Behind partner, and all 14 youth at the Devereux
House, for abused teens. $1000 was received at the
JOY Mall for various ministries matched by Thrivent
who also gave $1000 for Converge Food Ministries.

is impacting our community in significant ways

The year ended with an increased interest in Converge
from the community. The Eastwood community has a
monthly food drive which provides hundreds of pounds
of food each month. Several churches continue to
provide food or money. Converge Food Ministries now
meets monthly at SoJ and we have a new member,
University Congregational Church's Food Pantry. We
also hope to have a fifth food pantry join us in 2010.
We collect canned meats, veggies, fruit, juice, peanut
butter, & jelly for the 4 neighborhood church food
pantries on the first Sunday of every month. SoJ
serves as the collection center.
Monthly Harvest of Hope Collection
SoJ’s Outreach Team collects a different food item for
the Harvest of Hope ministry in the Bithlo area. Watch
the weekly bulletin for the specific item each month
and place your donations in the wagon by the cafe by
the 3rd Sunday of the month. Monetary donations are
welcomed too. Mark an SoJ offering envelope HoH and
place it in the offering basket.
Bicycle repair work days are held the 1st & 3rd
Saturdays of the month at 9 a.m. Volunteers are
needed to assist with control of parts, tools and
repairs. Knowledge of bikes is not required but a
willingness to learn and help is. Volunteers are greatly
appreciated and are not obligated to come to every

Adult Literacy Training
The Adult Literacy League has over 100 adults who
need help to become functionally literate. The next
two training sessions will be on January 30th and March
6th from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1 – 4 p.m. on both dates If
you have 2 hours a week to prepare a lesson, tutor,
and enjoy changing a life, this is a great opportunity. If

Life Line Screening ReturnsSoJ
to
This event will be held in the Splash Zone on
Friday, February 5, 2010 and is available to
anyone. The screening includes Stroke/Carotid
artery screening, heart rhythm screening,
abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial
disease and osteoporosis screening. The cost is
$139 for 4 tests and $149 for all 5 tests. If you
wish to participate, you must register in advance
by calling 1-800-679-5192 and mention source
code ISC6050. We cannot register people through
the church office. For more details, pick up a copy
of the Life Line Screening flyer at the Welcome
Center. Credit cards are accepted for payment.

Sunday Morning Prayer @ 8:30 a.m. – All worship participants gather for prayer each Sunday at 8:30
a.m. As we grow into
a house of prayer for all people, you are welcome to join them any Sunday!
Prayer List Distributed To Everyone - We encourage everyone at Spirit of JOY to partner in prayer!
The weekly Prayer List is emailed to the entire congregation. Please feel free to pray for any or all of the requests
as God gives the opportunity! Some find it helpful to print up the list each week and place it somewhere visible
as a reminder to pray. Extra copies are available each Sunday in the Prayer Book at the Welcome Center. Thanks
for your partnership in prayer! As it says in James 5:16...”The prayer of the righteous is powerful and
effective.” If you’d like to be on the email list, contact the church office at 407-282-4569.
Prayer Partners Available During And After Worship - Prayer Partners are available in the Worship
Center on Sundays as well as after worship in the Prayer Room adjacent to the church office. You may seek them
out for prayer before or after Communion, as well as after worship. All are welcome. If you would like to become
a Prayer Partner, contact Ina Wheeler or Pam Rousseau.
