Environmental protection
There are many environmental problems today, pollution, global warming, climate changes and
the greenhouse effect are the biggest problems facing our environment.
Factories, power stations and motor vehicles pump large quantities of CO 2 and other waste gases into
the air. This is a major cause of the greenhouse effect. It means that certain gases in the atmosphere
trap the energy from the sun and it makes the Earth warmer. If the greenhouse effect becomes stronger,
it may cause problems for plants, animals and humans too. Increase of the the greenhouse effect has
caused global warming. The icecap athe the North Pole and the glaciers are melting and the se-level is
rising.
Pollution makes the air, the water and the land dirty and unsafe. We cause pollution when we drive our
cars, use electricity, smoke, use aerosols etc. Big factories are also responsible for polluted air and
waters.
To reduce pollution and save energy and water, we should use them only when we need them. When
they are out of use, its recommended to switch the lights off and turn the tap off. To reduce pollution
caused by cars, we should use public transport, if its possible.
Recycling is also very important to reduce pollution. Recycling is when we collect rubbish to create
new products out of materials from the old ones. Paper, plastic, cans and bottles are all recyclable.
They should be collected separately from the non-recyclable garbage and should be taken to a
selective waste collection point. There are several of them in rd too.
Planting trees can also reduce greenhuse gases, as they produce oxygen and absorv CO2.
Deforestation
Rainforests help control global warming beacuse they absorb CO2. In recents years, large areas have
been destroyed, only about half of the mature tropical forests that once graced the planet still stand.
The Nr.1 reason is the popilation of the world, which is increasing especially in the third world. We
need new corpland so trees have been cut down, new areas must be used to build new cities, towns,
villages, which means that the living area of animals and plants- their habitat is taken over by a man.
A lots of animals are hunted fot the skin, food or horn as well. The burning releases large amounts of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
With the destruction of the forests the exposed soil erodes rapidly and becomes incapable of
supporting any kind of vegetation, so that the area may turn to desert. Many plant any animal species
that live there could become extinct.
Energy resources can be classified in two groups: renewable and non-renewable. Non-renewable
energy resources are those which cannot be used forever their supplies are limited, for e.g. fossil
fuels. Fossil fuels are buried under the ground: oil, coal, and natural gas. All fossil fuels produce CO2,
the most important greenhouse gas, when they burn. As fossil fuels are very polluting people started to
use other forms of resources, which can be used forever and not polluting the environment.
Energy comes in many forms the energy of the Sun, the wind and water are all able to generate
power without increasing the greenhouse effect.A device that converts one form of energy into another
is called a generator.
Several organizations have been founded to assist the environmental protection, for instance Greenpeace and
WWF. Greenpeace often organizes demonstrations against people, who deforest a region, hunt for whales, or
endanger the Earth. Their aim is to try to save the planet. Everybody should do things for our environment.
Everybody should at least have a few minutes to collect the rubbish selectively. It isnt so hard. Everybody can
recognize paper, glass, metal, and plastic. Not everything can be recycled, but I think more than 85 percent of
rubbish should be.
