As one of its high priority targets, the company koda Auto develops and manufactures products that
are environmentally friendly in all stages of their life cycle.
We place the main emphasis on the selection of recyclable materials. koda vehicles are produced
using progressive technologies in modern production facilities that meet the most rigorous criteria.
Only lead-free electrophoresis (KTL) and water-dilutable paints are used for the corrosion protection
of the painted parts of the vehicle.
The company's strategy is to focus on the reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, therefore
the engines offered by koda Auto comply with the applicable emission standards.
All products of koda Auto meet the laws and regulations on soil and water conservation. This
approach enables vehicles produced by koda to comply with the demands in terms of technology,
safety and quality, as well as fulll the environmental protection requirements.
Thus, koda Auto is committed to maintaining a clean environment, without sacricing the mobility
and customer satisfaction.

The effort to reduce the environmental impact

of vehicles as much as possible, is noticable
since the seventies of the last century, when
the rst regulations for the reduction of pollutants
contained in exhaust gases came into effect.
A signicant reduction in emissions was primarily
achieved in the last fteen years, due to the introduction of new technologies and the development
in electronics and computer technology.

The Euro 5 standard sets limit values for the most

common pollutants contained in exhaust gases
(in grams per kilometer), in particular for diesel
engines.

Main highlights of the Fabia GreenLine II model
kodaFabia GreenLine II does not only display a sophisticated look thanks to a Facelift, but offers
in particular technological improvements that help to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions
contained in the exhaust gases. The Fabia GreenLine II only consumes 3.4 ltr. of diesel fuel per 100
km in the combined operation while the CO2 emissions contained in the exhaust gases have been
reduced to 89 g/km.

Seal between the engine hood and the

front end on the model kodaFabia
GreenLine II (Hatchback)

Another element that reduces the air resistance correction value on the models kodaFabia GreenLine II in the Hatchback version is the engine hood seal tted to the front end.

In order to obtain low aerodynamic resistance values, the roof of the Fabia Combi model is not
equipped with frame side rails.
A weight limit is applied to the rst generation of the Fabia GreenLine model as well as to its
successor, which allows the vehicle to be equipped with only as many elements of special equipment
in order to maintain the maximum prescribed unladen weight of the vehicle or the favourable air
resistance correction value Cx. Equipment, which increases the vehicle weight too much, also
increases its fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions contained in the exhaust gases.
On the Fabia GreenLine II model, the value Cx 0.301 is achieved by implementing these measures.
The basic equipment of the Fabia GreenLine II model includes light alloy wheels ANTARES 6Jx15"
and 185/60 R15 tyres with lower rolling resistance.

Recuperation
In order to reduce the fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions, the recuperation function is also
applied in the models Greenline ll. Depending on the driving mode, the electrical energy is supplied
to the vehicle either by the alternator or the power supply is fed by the battery.
The core of the system is the alternator, its output voltage being controlled by an electronic regulator.
The control of the regulator is performed via the engine control unit.
The recuperation system allows to convert the excess kinetic energy of the vehicle into re-usable
electrical energy. This energy is stored in the battery of the vehicle or it is returned to the power supply
system of the vehicle. For vehicles in which the recuperation system is not used, the excess kinetic
energy is converted into heat energy during braking.

SP76_50

When braking the vehicle (gear engaged, accelerator pedal in basic position or brake pedal is
operated) the electronic regulator increases the output voltage at the alternator. The voltage
at the alternator is higher than the voltage of the battery, a maximum of 15 V. The alternator ensures
the power supply and at the same time the battery charge. If the voltage potential of the alternator
in the recuperation phase is higher, then the higher electric charge is stored in the battery.

GB

Function of the system during acceleration and while maintaining

a constant speed
Current sharing for 12 V on-board voltage
During acceleration of the vehicle or when maintaining a constant speed, the output voltage
of the alternator is lowered by the regulator to a value below the battery voltage (approx. 12 V).
The magnetic eld of the rotor and stator winding of the alternator moves the force vector of the
resistance into the lower range of the load characteristic of the rotating machine. The alternator
will take less mechanical energy from the crankshaft of the combustion engine. The fuel dosage
is adapted to the reduced engine power.
If the BDM unit decides that the battery is sufciently charged, the alternator is completely relieved
by the regulator and the whole power supply system of the vehicle is powered only by the battery.

The principle of the described recuperation is the change in voltage at the regulator of the alternator,
whereby the energy ow of the alternator/battery is divided depending on the current need
of the vehicle.
The charge status of the battery is monitored electronically (BDM battery data module). The new
battery technology makes it possible to achieve an extremely cyclic resistance and a higher level
of energy efciency. The information about the charge status of the battery is part of the control algorithm of the recuperation function. The control is installed in the engine control unit.
The alternator is an electric, rotating three-phase machine, similar in its principle to the alternator
in a conventional vehicle. The main difference lies in the voltage range (12-15V) of the electronic regulator which is connected to the engine control unit by a LIN communication interface (Local Interconnect Network). On the conventional vehicle, the xed value at the regulator of the alternator is 14.4 V.
Through the use of recuperation, the exhaust emissions are lowered by 2-4 g CO2/km in the NEDC
(New European Driving Cycle).

Start-stop system
START-STOP system
The START-STOP system is one of the most important technological elements that contributes to the
reduction of fuel consumption on GreenLine II models.
The philosophy of this system is to automatically shut off the engine when the vehicle is stopped,
whenever it is not necessary for the engine to run. The engine restarts automatically whenever the
driver wishes to continue the journey. The system is especially suitable for city trafc. In practice,
it is used when standing at trafc lights or driving in a queue of trafc.
The START-STOP system requires no special operation and works completely automatically. For the
traveler, it means no loss of comfort or the ability to accelerate immediately when the engine is started.
The function of the START-STOP system is performed via the engine control system. The function
is integrated in the software of the engine control unit.

It is decisive for the START-STOP system or for the phase in which the engine is turned off, whether
the charge status of the starter battery allows a restart of the engine. This procedure is referred
to as start voltage prediction. It states

Based on the start voltage prediction, it is determined whether the START-STOP operation can be
carried out or specic electrical consumers are switched off in order to maintain the power consumption. This concerns e.g. the seat heating system, the rear window heating and the mirror heating
systems. These systems are switched off before restarting the engine and are blocked for the duration
of the engine start.

DPF
Diesel particle lter
All model ranges
koda GreenLine are equipped with diesel particle lter as standard. The diesel particle lter
is installed in the exhaust manifold behind the oxidation catalytic converter. It absorbs soot particles
from the exhaust gases of the engine.

SP76_13

Function
The exhaust gases pass through a lter body, which consists of many ducts with a faceplate on one
side. The faceplates of the ducts alternate: once the gas enters the duct in the open direction, it must
then pass through its porous walls into an adjacent duct that is open in the direction of the engine.
When the exhaust gases ow through the lter, the soot particles are absorbed by the input ducts,
whereby the gaseous components of the exhaust gases can penetrate the porous walls of the duct.
