successfulbecauseitwasnotthekindofwritingIamusedto.Wewouldhaveonlya

weektoaccomplishacertainsetamountofwords,anditwasjustcontinuouswriting.

ThisiswhatIwaspoorat.Iamusedtoplanning,thenwritingastructuredessay,butthis

wasmoreofjustaflowofthoughtswithoutrevisingoranything.Ihadahardertimewith

this,andthereforeitaffectedmywriting.

Takinga300­400wordssectionofyourNanowrimoassignmentfromNovemberplease

reviseitfromitsroughdraftform.

1. Copyandpastetheroughdraftbelow. DoNOTrevisethispieceinthisarea. asiwatchedhimblurrilythroughmytears.Herushedovertomeandpulledupachair.

Asifocusedonhisvoice,mybreathingbegantocalmwitheachandeveryrepeated

I’mprettysureifforanyreasonatallhedecidedtoleave,Iwouldhaveasevereheartattack.

Bynowmyeyeswereclosed,andmybreathingwasbacktonormal,butIcontinuedtofocus

onitmanually.Ifeltsleepynow.IfeltJameswipethetearsfrommyface,andkissmy

OnDumpsterDivingbyLarsEigherisanaboutahomelessmanslifeandhowhe

mindwhensomeonethinksofthosethatarehomeless,formostthinkofthemasthe

scumofsocietyortheyfeelsympathetictowardsthem.LarsEigherpresentsthesocial

groupofhomelessasmorerespectable,duetohisownexperience,becauseitalifeof

survival.

Eigherwaspersonallyahomelessman,andhealsobelieveshimselftobevery

smartandmanyothergoodthingsstill.Hethinksthisbecauseheknowsmanythings

othersdonot,anditisbecauseofhisneedtosurviveasabum.Heisknowledgeable

aboutmanydifferentfoodsandwhetherornotitissafetoeat.Hefindsthisascommon

andneededknowledge,eventhoughhemakesitclearmostregularpeopledonotknow.

Thisishimputtinghimselfandhissocialgroupaboveothers.Hesays“Butmorethan

thatIwonderwhyhe[hiscompanion]cannotevaluatetheconditionofthecrackerfor

himself.”,andthisisanexampleofhowheisalmostmaterializinghislife.

Inanothersense,healsodiscriminatesagainstthosewhothrowoutfood,because

whattheytossisstillperfectlygood.Forinstance,aboutcollegepupilshestates“Butin

Overall,Larsdeemshimself,asotherfellow“dumpsterdivers”ashigherthan

mostpeoplewouldthink,andhigherthantheothersocialgroups.Hedoessobecausehe

believestheyaremoreintelligentbecauseofthethingstheyknowfromtheirneedto

survive.
