Food for thought
The act of servant hood is an attitude we should embrace,
Servants base their identity in Christ. They don’t need
awards to validate their work. They don’t insist on being
addressed by titles, and find status symbols unnecessary.
Servant hood starts with the understanding of what service
is and a willingness to consider or meet the needs of oth-
ers before your own needs, then it is or should be mani-
fested in our actions towards others and to God. It takes a
humble heart to be the servant of all. (1Pet.5:6)
Challenge
Having appreciated God’s word on servanthood in this
study, take some time off this week to do some acts of ser-
vice in your home, work place, school, church or commu-
nity. Do something you hardly do, for example, offer to do
some the maid’s work at home or serve your workmates
tea instead of the tea lady at your work place.
Watch and see how many people will be blessed.

TOPIC: THE ATTITUDE OF SERVANTHOOD – (GODLY PRINCIPLES)
When most people think of greatness, they imagine being a re-
nowned leader with an honourable reputation that enjoys prestige,
privilege and respect. By contrast, the term “servant” speaks of
very low prestige, in fact, in most societies, the servant or slave is
the lowest position held. But when Jesus spoke of greatness he
said, “Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your
servant…And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of
all” 1 Mark 10:43-44 and Philippians 2:5-9
DAY 1
“Real servants don’t try to use God for their purposes; they let God use them for
His purposes” 2
Servants think more about others than about themselves. Ser-
vants focus on others not themselves. This is true humility, not
thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less. Philippians
2:4 states let each of you look not only to his own interests but
also to the interests of others.

Servants remember that God owns it all. A great example being
Joseph; whose master entrusted him with everything in his house-
hold and was true to him (Genesis 39:8-9)

1 Corinthians 4:2 says the one thing required of servants is that
they be faithful to their Master. Luke 16:11 “No servant can serve
two masters…You can not serve both money and God.” How has
lust or the desire for money tried to take the place of God in your

“Servants think about their work not what others are doing.”
They don’t compare, criticise or judge others and are simply too
busy doing what God has given them. 3 A servant’s attitude says,
we are all on the same team, our goal is to make God look good, not
