CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP

Hardware Installation Manual (V1.3)


This section details the installation of your
CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP DVR
board and how to make the necessary connections.
You may install up to 2 cards into a PC to reach
32 Video and 32 Audio input.

The primary one,

will be referred to as CP-5404HS/408ASE


/5416ASE XP 0, while another will be called
CP-5404HS XP 1,2,3 or 5408ASE XP 1
or 5416ASE XP 1.

Before you start, please

make sure that your PC is off, and that the power


cable is unplugged.
(Fig 1)

1. The description of CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP (as Fig 1) pins and sockets:


1: DB 25 Video input.
2: TV out RCA connector for Video output
3: Dipswitch For DVR card number selection. Please ask your local distributor when you need to change
the card number.
4: J11 & J19 Connect the Linking cable between CP-54XX ASE XP 0 and 1 to control multi cards video
out via a Remote Controller. (CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP 1 only)
5: J8 (EM_B) Panic button socket (CP-54XX ASE XP 0 only)
6: RST- System failure socket, connect to the Reset socket of PC Motherboard. (CP-54XX ASE XP 0 only)
7: LED The indicator of auto reboots function.(CP-54XX ASE XP 0 only)
8: J_USB Connect to USB cable to the USB port of the PC Motherboard.
9: Sensor connector Connect to the sensor cable of remote controller. (Option)
10: Audio in- Connect to an audio board for audio input. (CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE -A XP only)

(A) System Failure Connections cable as shown in Fig 2:


The DVR system will reboot and restore to the original status
automatically when system crush occurs. Please follow the steps below to
connect these cables properly:

Connect the 3 connector of the Fig 2 cable to the RST socket of DVR board.
Connect the 1 connector of the Fig 2 cable to the Motherboard reset pin.

Connect the 2 connector of the Fig 2 cable to the PCs reset switch properly to complete.
(B) USB linking cable as shown in Fig 3:
Please follow the below steps to connect the USB cable to the CP-54XX
DVR Board and motherboard properly.
Plug the number 2 connector of the Fig 3 cable into the J_USB
socket of each CP-54XX Board
Connect the number 1 connector of the Fig 3 cable to the USB
port of the motherboard.

You can use the external USB cable to connect

the USB port of PC when the Motherboard does not have enough internal USB port.
The USB cable must be connected between DVR board and Motherboard; otherwise you cannot run
the Witness program properly.
(C) Panic Button as shown in Fig 4:
Connect the number 1 connector of the Fig4 cable to the J 8 (EM_B)
of the CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP 0 DVR Board.
And then connect the number 2 connector of the Fig4 cable to the
panic button device.

(D) Sensor cable as shown in Fig 5 (Optional)


To install the sensor, simply plug the end of the sensor device
(1 connector of the Fig 5 ) into the Sensor

connector of CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP DVR Board. Please make sure that the sensor does not
covered the area and faced to the direction where user is going to use the remote controller.
You must TURN OFF PC when you plug the Sensor cable, otherwise the Sensor cable will be
damaged.

(E) Linking cable (Fig 6) (Option)

There is a Linking cable on the package CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP 1.

This cable connects

between the J11 of CP-54XX XP 0 and J19 of CP-54XX XP 1.

(F) Audio Board (Optional) as shown in Fig 7
Audio Board (CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE -A XP only):
Connector the 1 of the Fig 7 with a DB-25 pins audio connector
(as shown in Fig 9) for the audio inputs.

Plug the 2 of the Fig 7 into the 10 Audio-in socket of the DVR card.

Please follow the steps below to set up the video connector (Fig 8):

Step 1: Connect the DB-25 Pin connector to the Video Board (Fig 7).
Step 2: Connect the 4/8/16 BNC connectors (the other end of the DB-25
Pin connector as shown in Fig 7) with the cameras for the Video inputs.
The mark V on the BNC connectors means video input.
The mark V1 on the BNC video connector means Video1, V2
means Video 2 , etc.
(H) Audio Cable (Option) as shown in Fig 9.
Step 1: Connect the DB-25 Pin connector to the Audio Board (As

Step 2: Connect the 4/8/16 BNC audio connectors (the other end of the
DB-25 Pin connector as shown in Fig 7) with the audio output cameras
for the audio inputs.
The mark A on the BNC connectors means Audio input. The mark
A1 on the BNC video connector means Audio 1, A2 means Audio 2

2. Completing Setup
Complete setup by following these steps:
1. Run Witness XP program, login, and press the System configuration

button. In the system

configuration window, enable both Watch dog timer and Auto-run.


2. Turn off the Windows login password, so that your PC proceeds directly into Windows. If this is not turned
off, Power Failure reboot and System Failure reboot will not work properly, because of the halt by the login
Windows.
3. After everything is connected and the prior two steps are completed, turn on your PC, run Witness Pro and
make sure that CP-5404HS/5408ASE/5416ASE XP 0s LED display the following behavior: Light is on
for 20 seconds, then off for 20 seconds, then on for 20 seconds, etc to confirm that the system is working
properly.

3. Using the Remote controller (Option)


On your remote controller, there should be buttons labeled with numbers representing camera numbers.
Points the remote controller at the sensor/receiver, press the number of the camera you wish to on the
TV and it will appear.

Number key: For the video channels selections.


Simply press the number key from the Display
section to display the selected video channel
on the connected monitor.
Return: After you use Display function, then you will return to all channels scroll. Push the key; all
Channels will be scrolled as DVRs setting.
Enter: To select the TV out function between CP-5416ASE XP 0 and CP-5416ASE XP 1.
For example:
If you want to view the video of camera 22 on TV; click Enter key and then entry 6 number key, you
will watch the camera 22 single video on TV.
F1: A reserved button.
F2: A reserved button.
F3: A reserved button.
F4: A reserved button..
Split Section: A reserved button
The 1-16 number key of Display section, 1 number represent camera 1 and 17, 2 represent camera 2
and 18.
