LESSON1: AT THE ZOO
LESSON AIMS:
To introduce and practice the new words of the lesson: animals and body
parts
To practice reading
MATERIALS:
Class Book page 58 59;
Blackboard
Notebook
ACTIVITY 1:
Aim: - to activate background knowledge related to the topic;
- to introduce the new words of the lesson
Procedure:
- Checking-up students homework;
- A warm-up activity to introduce the topic; I will ask students to tell me names
of animals they have already know: cat, dog, fish, bird, and mouse
- Then I will ask about those body parts which we have learnt about using the
question
What is this? (pointing at my nose)
Nose.
What is this? (Pointing at my ears)
Ears.
What is this? (Pointing at my eyes)
Eyes.

ACTIVITY 2:
Aim: - to introduce the new vocabulary related to the topic
Procedure:
- students have to look at the exercise 1 on page 58
- students have to look at the pictures and to repeat the new words after
me: a bear, a horse, tail, a tiger, teeth, a cow, a giraffe, neck, a frog, a
lion, a rabbit, a fish, an elephant

ACTIVITY 3:
Aim: - to practice the new vocabulary related to the topic
Procedure:
- Students have to do exercise 2 on page58
- They have to answer questions on the pictures from the first exercise
- They have to write down the questions and the answers
What is picture 1? a bear

Which animal has got big teeth?- a tiger
Which animal has got long tail? a horse
What is picture seven?- a lion
What is picture nine?- a fish
Which animal has got a long neck? a giraffe
What is picture ten? an elephant

ACTIVITY 4:
Aim: - to practice the new vocabulary related to the topic
- To practice reading
- To practice spelling
Procedure:
- Students have to do exercise 4 on page 59
- Students have to read a dialogue about animals: at first I will read for
them the whole text and they have to write down all the unknown words.

- I will read the text once again, asking my students to repeat each line
after me
- As a last step they have to act it out
Ex. 4: Listen and repeat
Jane, her baby sister Diana, Maria and her baby brother Dan are visiting the zoo.
Diana: What a funny horse! It has got four ears and a long neck.
Jane: Dont be silly. It isnt a horse. Its a giraffe.

ACTIVITY 5:
Aim: - to practice the new vocabulary related to the topic
- To practice text comprehension
Procedure:
- Students have to do exercise 5 on page 59
- Students have to read the text at ex 4 once again
- Students have to thick the right statement from the three given ones
Ex. 5: Thick the right box
a) The children are at the school.
The children are at the zoo.
The children are at home.
b) A giraffe has got a short neck.
A giraffe has got four eyes.
A giraffe has got four ears.
c) A tiger is a small animal.
A tiger is a friendly animal.
A tiger has got big teeth.

complete the given sentences with one of the new words they have learnt.
