INTRODUCTION AutoCAD
TUTORIALS
INTRODUCTION
The term CAD (Computer Aided Design) applies to a wide range of programs that allow the
user to created drawings, plans, and designs electronically. AutoCAD is one such program
and it main claim to fame is that it is relatively easy to use, it is very comprehensive in its
ability to create 2D and some 3D drawings, and it is very popular. Seventy percent of the
CAD users in the world use AutoCAD.
1. LIMITS
Limits command is used to set size of screen.(Figure 1.1)

2. UNITS
Units command is used to set units of drawing.
To invoke units command type UNITS on command window and press Enter.
Drawings units dialogue box appears on screen. (Figure 1.2)
Decimal
Decimal Unit format is used to create drawing in millimeter, centimeter,
decimeter, meter, hectometer, decameter and kilometer.
One unit can be working at a time i.e. object can be drawn either millimeter
or centimeter or any other decimal unit.

chapter-2 or by direct clicking of start point and then length (sometimes along with
angle) or combination of both. As engineering drawings are available with various
sizes of part so one of the best ways of drawing a line is by giving direction to
cursor.

Direction of X and Y axis illustrate the type of face. Interchanging direction of X and Y axis
does not change face however Z axis changes from positive to negative direction or vice
versa but lie in the same straight line.
i.
Top Face: In top face X and Y axis lie along the edges of side seen from top. If Z
axis is along vertical line (upward or down ward) there is always top face.
ii.
Right Face:
Fig. 11.2
In right face X and Y axis lie along the edges of side seen from right.
