5-in. Round-Mandrel Slip Joint
The 5-in. Round-Mandrel Slip Joint requires assembly drawing 614.52000.
SCOPE
This procedure is applied to ensure the operational readiness of the equipment before
mobilization to location.
Note Make sure you have a maintenance status sheet, tool dressing sheet, and the
appropriate assembly drawing at your work station before beginning the job. Check the
maintenance status sheet for pre-repair instructions, and proceed as instructed.
The locking coupling (9) is used to lock the slip joint in the collapsed position. When
collapsed the tool still maintains full tensile rating. Therefore, the string can be picked up
through the coupling.
Prior to running in the hole, back off the set screws (27) and rotate the locking coupling
(9) upward and shoulder firmly with 500 ft-lb onto the locking nipple (8). Retighten the
set screws (27).

Assembly
To assemble the 5-in. Round Mandrel Slip Joint in the shop:
HSE
Ensure that safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed shoes and hard hats (if required) are worn.
Review the appropriate Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms before commencing the work.
Ensure the hand tools are in good condition and the work area is free of trips and hazards.
Maintain good housekeeping standards in the work area at all times.
Ensure proper lifting techniques are utilized, and get help if necessary.
1. Install back seals, new wipers, and new o-rings. Record on the Tool Dressing Sheet.
2. Place the inner sealing connector (2) in the vise ensuring that the vise jaws are set on
the flat non-sealing area. Lightly coat all o-rings, seals, and wipers with grease.
3. Slide the upper sealing mandrel (1) through the inner sealing connector (2) starting at
the threaded end of the sealing connector. Leave the upper sealing mandrel flush with
the end of the sealing connector.
4. Mate the lifting/sealing mandrel lugs (6) and the upper sealing mandrel lugs (1).
5. Make up the inner sealing connector (2) and the lifting/sealing mandrel (1). Tighten to
500 ft-lb with a 36 in. wrench.
Note Fully engage the lugs of the lifting sealing mandrel (6) and the upper sealing
mandrel (1) before make up of threads.
The port in the lifting/sealing mandrel (6) should be approximately 1/8 in. off the threaded
edge of the inner sealing connector (2) when tightened.
6. Slide the upper sealing adapter (3), pin first, onto the upper sealing mandrel (1) until it
makes contact with the inner sealing connector (2).
Note
Place enough grease in the upper sealing adapter (3) to pack off the void space when the
sealing upper mandrel (1) is installed.
7. Install the torque keys (4) on the upper sealing mandrel (1) with the tapered ends
pointed toward the top of the tool.
8. Align the slotted case (5) and the torque keys (4). Slide the slotted case over the upper
