The new body cameras that Shore

area police are using will keep a
watchful eye on the officers as well as
on the people they encounter, experts
say.
While Monmouth County has avoided
the kind of violent unrest that scarred Ferguson, Missouri, and later Baltimore, the
Howell, Middletown and Wall police departments each received five body cameras under a
new pilot program, acting County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.
These weatherproof cameras are created by Texasbased police equipment manufacturer WatchGuard
Video. Dozens of camera models are cropping up as law
enforcement agencies and activists look to record police-citizen interactions.
I really hope that the program gives us good, positive data, Gramiccioni told the Asbury Park Press.
The pilot program raises sundry questions about using the technology. Heres what to know so far about

A day after 61 concertgoers were arrested and 10

state troopers injured at the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert at MetLife Stadium, some concertgoers questioned whether a lack of information helped lead to the
melee in the parking lot.
The clashes, which included concertgoers throwing
bottles at police and police lobbing tear gas in response,
began after the tickets were sold out early Sunday evening, according to Emmis New York, owners of Hot 97
radio station and host of the hip-hop and R&B concert.
A majority of arrests occurred because of concertgoers climbing fences and trying to push past security
at the East Rutherford stadiums entrance gate, said
Sgt. Jeff Flynn, spokesman for the New Jersey State
Police.
Charges for those arrested ranged from soliciting
without a permit and trespassing to possession of a
weapon and assault. The majority of charges were for
disorderly behavior. The crowd ultimately dispersed
about 10 p.m., three hours after the disturbance began.
A small group of highly disruptive people ruined
this concert for many others. They created a danger to
ticketholders, stadium employees and troopers on the
scene. Our troopers took the appropriate steps to restore order to what was a brief and volatile situation,
