Construction specification
I.

NATURE OF WORK:
1.
The work involved in this specification comprises the furnishing of all labor,
materials, equipment and other facilities of the above written project necessary to
undertake and complete. The construction as approved plans and drawings of 52 x 450
Poultry Housing located at San Jose City, Nueva Ecija as shown in the actual details
specified therein.
2.
The implementation of the work stipulated herein shall be in accordance with all
national laws, and all local ordinances and building rules and regulations.
3.
It is also provided that during the course of the work that there shall be no
obstacle to traffic and to convenient flow of the public.
4.
After completion thereof, the premises and the Poultry Housing itself shall be
cleaned of debris and dirt trash caused by the operation.

II.

EXCAVATION AND FILLS:


1.
GENERAL
Excavation and fills for this poultry housing shall be constructed or protected that
they do not endanger life or property. No fill or other surcharge loads shall be
placed adjacent to any other building unless such building is capable of
withstanding the additional loads caused by the fill or surcharge.
2.
PROTECTION OF ADJOINING PROPERTY

a. The requirements for protection of adjacent property and depth to which


protection is required shall be defined by prevailing law. Where not defined by
law, the following shall apply: Any person making or causing an excavation to
be made to a depth of 3.50 meters or less below the grade shall protect the
excavation so that the soil of adjoining property will not cave in or settle, but
shall not be liable for the expense of underpinning the foundation of buildings
on adjoining properties. Before commencing the excavation, the person
making or causing the excavation to be made shall notify in writing the
owners of adjoining building immediately made and that the adjoining
building should be protected.
b. The owners of the adjoining property shall be given access to the excavation
for the purpose of protecting such adjoining buildings.
c. Any person making or causing an excavation to be made 3.50m depth below
the grade shall protect the excavation so that the adjoining soil will not cave
in or settle shall extend or otherwise maintain the integrity of the foundation
of any adjoining building below the depth of 3.50 m below grade at his own
expense, as provided in the preceding paragraph.
III.

FORMWORKS:
1. DESIGN OF FORMWORKS
a. Forms shall result in a final structure that conforms to shapes, lines and
dimensions of the members as required by the design drawings and specifications.
b. Forms shall be substantial and sufficient to prevent leakage of mortar.
c. Forms shall be properly braced or tied together to maintain position and shape.
d. Forms and their supports shall be designed so as not to damage previously placed
structures.
2. REMOVAL OF FORMS
a. Forms shall be removed in such a manner not to impair safety and serviceability
of the structure. All concrete to be endorsed by form removal shall have sufficient
strength not to be damaged thereby.

IV.

METAL REINFORCEMENT:
1. MATERIAL
a. Reinforcement shall be deformed billet steel bars with a specified tensile strength

.
2. BENDING

a. All reinforcement shall be bent cold, unless otherwise permitted by the Engineer
in charge.
3. SURFACE CONDITIONS OF REINFORCEMENT
a. When the concrete is placed, metal reinforcement shall be free from mud, oil, or
other non-metallic coating that decrease bond.
4. PLACING OF REINFORCEMENT
a. Reinforcements shall be accurately placed and adequately supported, spacers with
all necessary wire ties before concrete is placed shall be secured against
displacement within tolerance permitted.
5. SPLICING LIMITS FOR REINFORCEMENT
a. Splicing shall be done by lapping or welding to develop full strength of the steel
bars. Minimum lapping of deformed bars shall be 24 x bar diameter.
V.

CONCRETE:
1. MATERIALS
a. Cement shall conform to specification for Portland cement (PNS 07:1983) or
(ASTM C 150).
b. Aggregates, nominal maximum size of coarse aggregates shall not be larger than:
b.1. 1/5 the narrowest dimension between sides of forms
b.2. 1/3 the depth of slab
b.3. the minimum clear spacing between individual and reinforcing bars.
c. Water used in mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amount of
oils, acids, alkalis, salts, organic materials or other substances that may be deleterious
to concrete or reinforcements.
2. PROPORTIONING AND MIXING
a. Concrete shall be proportioned to provide an average compressive strength.
Cement content shall range from approx. 6-10 bags/cu.m.
a.1. fc=211 kgs./sq.cm. for all structural concrete works (footing, columns, and
beams).
a.2. fc=176 kgs./cu.m. for slab on fill.
b. All concrete shall be machine mixed. Time of mixing shall not be less than one
minute for mixer having one cubic meter capacity until there is a uniform
distribution of materials and shall be discharged completely before mixer is
recharged.
3. DEPOSITING
a. Concrete shall be deposited as nearly as practical in its final position to avoid
segregation due to re-handling or flowing.

b. Concreting shall be carried on at such a rate that concrete is at all times plastic
and flows readily into spaces between reinforcement.
c. Concrete that has partially hardened or has been contaminated by foreign
materials shall not be deposited or used for the structure.
d. When construction joints are required, it shall be provided where indicated or as
directed by the Engineer in charge. Construction joint in floors shall be located
within the middle third of spans of slab and beams.
e. All concrete shall be thoroughly consolidated by suitable means during placement
and shall be thoroughly worked around reinforcement and embedded fixtures and
into corners of forms.
4. CURING
a. Concrete (other than high early strength) shall be maintained above

C and in a

moist condition for at least the first 7 days after placement.


VI.

MASONRY:
1. MATERIALS
a. The quality and design of materials assembled in masonry work shall conform to
internationally accepted engineering standards and specifications. The materials
included in masonry work shall be classified as natural stones of irregular or
regular units.
2. CONCRETE HOLLOW BLOCKS
a. Concrete hollow blocks shall be 4 inches thick, non-load bearing, and shall have a
compressive strength of 49kgs./sq.cm after 28 days of curing.
3. PRODUCT DELIVERY
a. Delivery shall be handled in a manner to avoid chipping, breakages, and intrusion
of other elements. Concrete hollow blocks shall be stacked separately as regard to
time of delivery.
4. PLACING
a. Masonry unit shall be set plumb and true to line with level horizontal joints within
the variable tolerance.
5. MORTARING AND GROUTING
a. Mortar shall be mixed in proportion of 1 bag Portland cement is to 0.11 cu.m. fine
sand. Sufficient amount of water shall be added gradually until mass is totally
mixed and its plasticity is obtained.
b. Grouting shall consist of a mixture of Portland cement and fine aggregates with
sufficient amount of water added to produce a fluid mixture.
6. CEMENT PLASTER
a. Materials for plastering works shall be mixed in a proportion of 1 bag Portland
cement is to 0.08 cu.m. of screened sand thoroughly mixed with enough water to
a uniform color and workable consistency.

b. Plaster application shall be 1.1 cm. thick maximum for scratch coal and cm
thick maximum for finish coat.
VII.

STRUCTURAL STEEL:
1. MATERIALS
a. All materials shall conform to ASTM A36.
b. Screws and expansion bolts shall be of standard commercial grade as approved by
the Engineer in charge. Steel rivets shall conform to ASTM A502.
2. WELDS
a. Electrodes for arc welding shall conform to American Welding Society, AWS D1.
1-77.
b. The maximum size of fillet that may be used along edges of materials less than
6mm thick, not greater than the thickness of the materials.
c. Minimum lap joints shall be 5 times the thickness of the thinner part joint, but not
less than 25mm.
d. The minimum effective length of a fillet weld designed on the basis of strength
shall be not less than 4 times the nominal size, or else the size of the weld shall be
considered not to exceed of its effective length.
e. Miscellaneous metal items including accessories, fastening and anchorage not
specifically mentioned herein or in other section of this specification but are
required to complete the works and for which there are no detail drawing shall be
provided and installed in accordance with best standard practice of the trade.

VIII. CARPENTRY WORKS:


1. LUMBER
a. Lumber shall be approved quality of their respective kinds required for various
parts of the works. Lumber shall be well-seasoned. Thoroughly dry and free from
imperfections. All exposed woods shall be smoothly pressed and wellsandpapered.
2. PLYWOOD
a. Marine Plywood shall be used and of approved quality and kind.
3. DOORS
a. All wooden door jambs shall be made of Yakal.
b. Flush door with viewing panel shall be Yakal framed, marine plywood panel, and
3/16 thick clear glass with door lock and hinges.
c. Metal door shall be Ga. 18 G.I. sheet framed with 1 diameter G.I. Pipe including
necessary weather stripping and door locked.
4. WINDOWS
a. Fixed windows shall be aluminium framed with 3/16 thick clear glass.
b. Steel casement windows shall be French type with 1/18 thick clear glass.
IX.

HARDWARES:

1. All thoroughly hardwares required for the completion of structures is provided in


these specifications.
2. Hinges shall be 4 x 4 Stanley brand for Flush doors and 1 diameter pipe hinges for
metal doors.
3. All doors, lockets, stoppers, and closers are Yale brand.
X.

ELECTRICAL WORKS:
1. GENERAL
All works hereunder shall comply with the latest Philippine Electrical Code, and to
the rules and regulations of local power company having authority in the work area.
2. MATERIALS
a. Branch lines shall be 12 THN Copper Conductor in type.
b. Conduit size shall be 15mm dia. PVC pipe for branch lines.
c. Switches and convenience outlets fixtures shall be of Toshiba brand or any
equivalent type.
3. WIRING INSTALLATION
All wiring runs, conduit homeruns and sizes shall be done in accordance with the
approved plans and drawings and all the requirement of the local power company
which has the jurisdiction within the vicinity.
4. WALL SWITCHES AND CONVENIENCE OUTLET INSTALLATION
a. All wall switches and convenience outlets to be used in connection with
concealed wiring shall be standard factory products of reputable electrical
manufacturer and shall be flush type.
b. Wall switches shall be located 1.40m from finish line or as directed by the owner.
c. Convenience outlets shall be located 0.30m (min) from finish floor line or as
directed by the owner.
d. Locations and positions of wall switches and convenience outlets indicated in the
approved plans and drawings may vary as directed by the owner.

Power Generator set Specification:


CUMMINS Diesel Generator Set, Silent-type, in-line, direct injection, four (6) cycles, four (6)
cycles, cooled directly coupled to a brushless type AC Stamford alternator. The generator is
capable of delivering an output rating of 100KVA (80 KW) and 112KVA (90KW) respectively
@ Continuous with a power factor of 0.8 @220V, three (3) phase, 60 Hz., 1800 rpm. Complete
with standard accessories as listed below.
