Energy Crisis
!
The world is facing a major energy and fuel crisis these days.
!
!
!
We are expected to run out of oil, coal and gas in 35, 107 and 37 years
respectively.
Prices of oil, coal and gas will rise dramatically during the next few years.

Thesis objective
!
!
!
!
!
Selecting biofuels that can be used in most SI engines without major modifications.
!
!
Selecting and testing different types and compositions of biofuels that are available in
Egypt.
!
!
Introduction
!
!
!
Bio diesel : a type of fuel made extracted from coconut, soya beans, peanut,
sunflower and algae.
!
!
Ethanol : alcohol form of fuel extracted from rice, sugar cane, corn and
wheat.
!
!
!
!
!
!
According to the FAO Egypt produces more than 1.5 million tons of sugarcane each year.
!
!
!
!
FAO stated that Egypt was the highest rice producer in the near region.

Above e80, modifications must be done to the engine.
More widespread practice has been to add up to 20% to
gasoline by volume (E20-fuel or gasohol) to avoid the need
of engine modifications.

Modifications
!
Cold Starting
Ethanol blends have a higher latent heat of evaporation than 100% petrol and
thus ethanol blends have a poorer cold start ability in Winter.
