Idea:
The concept is to develop intelligent and natural interfaces between users
and computer based systems based on human gestures. Gestures provide an
intuitive interface to both human and computer. Thus, such gesture-based
interfaces can not only substitute the common interface devices, but can
also be exploited to extend their functionality. All the household and
industrial appliances can be controlled by a mere movement of the finger.
Technologies Involved:
Gesture recognition technologies are budding in the world of today. At
present a lot of work is going on in this field but very few are available for
publicly available implementations. Several approaches have been
developed for sensing gestures and controlling appliances. Glove based
technique is a well-known means of recognizing hand gestures. It utilizes an
accelerometer sensor attached to a glove that directly measures hand
movements. The output of the sensor is fed to a microcontroller for decision
making. The final output from the microcontroller can be used to operate a
relay or to drive an actuator motor as required. For communication between
the glove and the microcontroller, RF link is used with encoder + decoder so
as to facilitate controlling of a large number of devices from a single glove.
The Team:
Working team consists of three students from B.Tech final year (EEE branch).
The group is being guided by a faculty member having expertise in the
relevant field.
