SIP project guideline for MBA

As per the Savitribai Phule Pune University requirements, students of MBA are required to complete 8
week summer training after the completion of their semester-II examination. (15th May 2015- 15th July
2015). Based on this training project report is to be submitted which should be minimum 60 pages. The
report should be submitted to the Director/Dean-NBNSSOMS 16th August 2015 failing which the
students will not be allowed to appear for III semester university examination.

Students should note the following


I.

Topic finalization:

Based on the specializations of the students, internal guides are allotted to each student. They should
finalize their project report topic after consultation with their internal guide. The list of guides allotted is
being displayed on the notice board.

II.

First rough draft and presentation

The first rough draft of the project report should be submitted to the respective project guide on or before
1st August 2015.Every student will have to make a presentation of his/her project report as per a schedule
which will be notified in due course.

III.

Schedule of summer training

Summer training has been scheduled between 15th May 2015- 15th July 2015.Students should report to
the institute on 1st August 2015. A strict disciplinary action will be taken against the students who
continue their summer training beyond 15th July 2015.And thereby remain absent from the institute.
IV.

Students are advised to meet their guides at least twice a month for guidance. The project report
should not be finalized unless it is approved by the guide

The project report should be strictly prepared according to the guidelines as follows

The selection of the subject for the project may be from the following functional areas or
according to students choice
1. Marketing
2. Human resource management
3. Finance
4. Operation management
5. Information technology
6. International business management
7. Supply chain management
8. Rural and agribusiness management
9. Family business management
10. Technology management

VIII.

In order to maintain uniformity and for better presentation, the project report shall
contain the following
A) Covering page with title of the project- format enclosed in Annexure A
B) Certificate by NBN Director& Dean- Format enclosed in Annexure B
C) Certificate from the organization/company where the student has done his /her summer trainingFormat enclosed in Annexure C
D) Acknowledgement Format enclose in Annexure D
E) Index / table of content with reference to appropriate pagination
F) Main text of the report- Chapter scheme enclosed in Annexure E

IX.

The project report must be prepared in consultation will the internal guide. Without her/her
approval, the project report shall not be accepted by the institute.

X.

The project report must be an original work of the student. Wherever outside references have
been taken by the student, it should disclose by way of footnote or endnote or bibliography. An
ideal way of is closing reference is as follows.

Other instructions
1. Every Graph/Table should have title, Table No. and brief explanation.
2. The project report should be hard bound in black rexene with golden embossing.
3. There copies are required
a. Copy 1 University copy (with originals)
b. Copy 2 Institute copy
c. Copy 3 Student copy
d. one soft copy (CD)
4. Acknowledgement must be signed by the student before submission
5. Report should contain page numbers after the acknowledgement. Page umber is to be given at the
mid-bottom of the page.
6. Students should obtain the clearance from their guides before binding the project report.
7. Font- New Times Roman \
8. Font size 12 for description, 16 for subheading, 18 for heading, title of project 24

Executive Summary: Includes brief introduction of the topic & company,
nature of task undertaken, modus operand adopted, specific findings
&suggestions in the form of contribution to organization.
Chapter 1- Introduction (Page Limit- 2 to 3)
( Brief Introduction to the Business Environment(Global as well as
Indian),Industry Analysis, SWOT analysis of the Industry.
Chapter 2- Organization profile- (Page Limit- 4 to 5)
(Historical background and current status of the company, Structure of the
Organization and Department where project has been undertaken, product
profile, manpower (strength), turnover, future plans.etc,,,)
Chapter 3 Outline of the Problem/Task Undertaken-(Page Limit- 1 to 2)
(Brief of the problem or the task undertaken by the student through company
and faculty guide. Measure and Minor (if present); Scope- Geographical,
tropical, Analytical, and Functional)
Chapter 4 - Research methodology & data analysis-(Page Limit-10 to 15)
(In case of research projects only)
In case of research project project (by using research methodology) it should
Include- Research design, Sample design, source of sample, methods of data
Collection (if applicable), tools of data analysis applied, key concept and
definition, limitations.)
Chapter 5 Data Presentation and Interpretation-(Page Limit-10 to 15)
(Relevant Charts, tables, graphs, diagrams,etc..)-Quantitive data analysis
using charts, tables, graphs and the diagrams followed by brief data
Interpretation of each chart, table, graphs and diagrams. It may be historical
or current data.
Chapter 6 - Learning of the student through the project-(Page Limit-4to5)
8 weeks project-per week learning has to be mentioned (8 learning stages)
has to be mailed to the respective guide. Any addition in existing fund of
knowledge.
Chapter 7 - Contribution to the host organization-(Page Limit- 3 to 4)

Student contribution to the company on assigned topic. Findings and the


recommendations to the host organization. Major contribution in the form of
newly identified or modified system or methodology.
References-(Page Limit- 1 to 2)
Books /Journals, Websites Referred -References by using appropriate
referencing styles.(APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago Style etc.)
Annexure-(Page Limit- 4to 5)
Data collection tools(Questionnaires-primary data) and/or various reports,
secondary data, photographs if any.
Submission and Evaluation
1 It should reflect the nature and quantum of work undertaken by the
student. The report must reflect 8 weeks of work and justify the same.
2 The completion of the SIP shall be certified by the respective Faculty
Guide & approved by the Director of the Institute. The external
organization (Corporate / NGO/ SME/ Government Entity/ Cooperative /
etc.) shall also certify the SIP work.
3 The student shall submit One hard copy (rough draft) of the project
report before 1st August 2015.
4 The student shall submit TWO hard copies & one soft copy (CD) of the
project report before 16th August 2015 in Sem III. One hard copy is to
be returned to the student by the Institute after the External Viva - Voce.
5 In the interest of environmental considerations, students are
encouraged to print their project reports on both faces of the paper.
6 SIP shall have a weightage of 6 credits. The Institute shall conduct
Presentations, internal viva- voce , before the semester III UOP
examination , for evaluation of the SIP for 50 marks.
7 The Panel shall comprise of the Internal Faculty Guide & One additional
faculty nominated by the Director.
8 There shall be an external viva.- voce for the SIP for 100 marks.

9 The examiners panel for the same shall include one external faculty
member nominated by the University and one internal faculty member
nominated by the Director.
10 The external viva - voce shall be conducted for 15 minutes at least per
Student.
11 The Internal & the External viva - voce shall evaluate the project based
on:

Actual work undertaken by the student.

Utility of the project to the organization
Basic analytical capabilities Copies of SIP report and records of
evaluation shall be maintained by the Institute for a period of 3
academic years.
