Time: 50 minutes
Aims: To give SS practice in using English language in a correct manner
- To assume new vocabulary, to grasp new vocabulary, practice new meanings
- To be able to express their opinion fluently concerning a given theme
- To be able to gather that different cultures recognise weddings in different but
meaningful way;
Assumed knowledge: - some SS may have the necessary vocabulary and knowledge in
order to express a clear point of view;
Anticipated problems: - SS may find words that they do not know the meaning, in the
text given by the teacher
- some SS may not be able to express a clear point of view
concerning the debated issues
Teaching aids: textbook, handouts, blackboard, teachers book
Method of teaching: communicative method

Activity 1: Warm up activity short discussion on the title of the lesson


Aim: - to motivate SS and get them interested in the topic
Procedure: - T asks SS about the title of the lesson, if it sounds familiar to them, where
and when the words for better, for worse are used (wedding ceremony
wedding vows)
- SS express their opinion
- SS are asked to share their opinion on the reason 2 people get married
Interaction: T-SS, SS-T
Time: 7'

Activity 2: Reading comprehension


Aim: to make SS develop reading skills (scanning and skimming)
Procedure: SS read the text from the handouts given by the T (Victorian relationships)
- SS work in pairs to reaorganise the text and they can help each other on
vocabulary issues
- T makes sure that the SS know the meaning of all the words in the text; T
helps them with explanations where needed (the new words are written on the
blackboard and in the notebooks)
- T asks SS to grasp the main idea of the text they have just read

Activity 3: Speaking skills


Aim: to express personal opinion on the difference between nowadays relationships and
the ones in the Victorian age (as depicted by the text)
Procedure: T divides SS in 2 groups Pros Victorian Age and Pros Nowadays asks
them to bring 7 arguments to sustain their opinion. The opinion of the 2 groups will be
written on the blackboard by the spokesman of each group and by the SS in the
notebooks.

Activity 4:
Aim:
Procedure: - SS are given some handouts with some pictures that show important events
of peoples lives. They have to guess what those photos have in common, then to match
the name of the ceremonies given to the pictures and the last activity to discuss the
purpose and what happens in those ceremonies. SS will perform group activities (4)

Activity 6: Home assignment
Aim: to review the topics discussed
Procedure: - T gives the homework and the necessary explanations. SS have to write an
essay with their opinion on the past and nowadays relationships, using the ideas and the
vocabulary provided by the lesson.
