Doble Test Assistant (DTA) Software and its expert system analysis feature, together with the
Doble M4000 Automated Insulation Analyzer is the most advanced automated system for
testing and analyzing the power factor (tan delta) of high-voltage apparatus in the industry.
(DTA), a WindowsTM program, automatically collects M4000 test data, calculates power factor (tan
delta), analyzes test results with expert system software, and stores test results in its database. DTA
compares test data to previous data and Dobles
published test data limits, applies temperature correction curves, compares tests among similar units
and provides ratings and messages explaining the
ratings. On-screen test procedures provide apparatus diagnostic guidance for users in the field.
DTA contains standardized test procedures that provide consistencies so that, regardless of the tester,
the same test will be performed in a similar format
that is clear and easy to understand.
DTA provides expert system analysis of each test
result, including an insulation rating (I-investigate,
D-deteriorated, G-good, etc.) with an explanation as
to how the rating was aquired.

The expert system also provides a list of recommended investigative procedures if questionable test
results are obtained. These investigative tests can
quickly confirm the existence of a problem, if there
is one, eliminating the need for a second outage to
investigate questionable results.
The DTA database, with nameplate data and results,
provides a complete inventory of all tested apparatus, useful for analysis across apparatus types and
for finding apparatus when manufacturers issue
service advisories. DTA also stores field diagnostic
test data including turns ratio test, insulation resistance measurements, insulating fluid tests, dew point
and moisture content of SF6 gas, etc. DTA file management capabilities include: copying, moving, and
archiving test data.
DTA contains reference data on an extensive list of
apparatus as well as exstensive on-line help

DTA and M4000 testing can greatly increase the reliability of power systems and safely extend the useful
life of apparatus, Dobles goal since its founding in 1920

The DTA expert system validates test results for proper use of the M4000 and rates insulation
as I - investigate, D - deteriorated, and G - good, as shown in the Ratings (INS RTG) column
on the right of the test screen shown above

The DTA expert systems knowledge was developed

from a data base of over 5 million test results and
over seventy years of Doble Client Service experience. It contains more than 3,700 rules and incorporates up to 30 test characteristics. It also has
embedded temperature correction parameters that
automatically adjust test results to a 20 C base.
When the expert system finds insulation ratings
other than Good, it recommends corrective
actions as shown on the above screen.

DTA consists of Field and Office modules. Field

supports all field testing operations. DTA Office
takes test results from the field systems and incorporates them into its relational database. DTA
Office has capabilities for querying the database,
and generating reports for determining trends, maintenance scheduling, and apparatus inventory. DTA
Office also provides a safe backup of data that can
be shared across a network. DTA Software also
allows users to send and receive DTA files, and
query the DTA database remotely over telephone
