GENERAL
1. Valves shall comply with FRS-DS-5038. (Directions for use of this data sheet are provided in
FRS-DG-5038.)
2. Number and size of valves shall comply with FRS-DU-971.
3. Valve capacity (SCFH air) data, curves, or calculations, determined per API Std 2000 testing,
shall be provided for the following:
a. Normal pressure venting with 0.86 inch of water (0.50 oz/sq. in.) pressure setting and
1.47 inches of water (0.85 oz/sq. in.) accumulated tank pressure. Accumulated pressure
may be increased from 1.47 inches of water if roof plate thickness is increased from
3/16 inch to 1/4 inch. Refer to FRS-DU-971 for more information.
b. Emergency pressure venting with 0.86 inch of water (0.50 oz/sq. in.) pressure setting and
3.00 inches of water (1.73 oz/sq. in.) accumulated tank pressure. Accumulated pressures
may be higher if they do not exceed internal design pressure of tank.
c. Normal vacuum venting with 0.86 inch of water (0.50 oz/sq. in.) vacuum setting and
1.73 inches of water (1.00 oz/sq. in.) accumulated tank vacuum. Accumulation of vacuum
may be higher if it does not exceed internal design vacuum of tank.
4. Unless specified otherwise, valve bodies shall be cast aluminum.
5. Valve bodies shall not be fabricated steel.
6. Valve trim (internals) shall be manufacturer standard for service conditions and may be either:
a. Aluminum
b. Molded plastic

a. Tag number
b. Opening pressure and opening vacuum settings
c. Pressure and vacuum at which valve reaches full open position, stated in
inches of water and oz/sq. in.
d. Out-breathing flow capacity at full open pressure in SCFH of air
e. In-breathing flow capacity at full open vacuum in SCFH of air
f.

Flange size and rating

g. Manufacturer name and model number

2. Nameplate shall be permanently attached with stainless steel machine screws.

PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

1. Flanges shall be protected by solid covers securely bolted to flanges.
2. Openings shall be covered to prevent dirt from entering valve interior.
3. Threaded connections shall have thread protectors to keep them clean of foreign material.
4. Movement of pallets and discs shall be restricted for shipment.
5. Valves shall be shop (bench) tested on vacuum and pressure sides before shipment. Test papers
shall accompany valves.
