2.0 Storage Precaution

2.1 Storage
1. When the busduct arrived at the site, check the type and quantity of main unit and parts against
delivery order. Inspect for any damages caused during transportation.
2. Keep the busduct at dry place, away from water and moisture, preferably under roof protected
from rain. Cover the busduct with water-proof sheets should there be need.
3. Do not lay the busduct directly onto the ground or in upright position. Always place pieces of
wood under the busduct during storage.
4. To prevent the joint of the busduct from being soiled, wrap them with vinyl sheet until
immediate installation.

2.2 Preparation Prior to Installation

1. Thoroughly check the laying route of the busduct to ensure that it is free from any obstacles,
heat source, water leakage etc.
2. Install the hanging bolts or trestles for hanger beforehand. Set the hanger pitch to support two
places with one unit as a standard.
3. Investigate the site conditions in advance and determine the most advantageous busduct laying
order. The installation usually starts by connecting the busduct to the transformer ore
switchboard.

3.0 Installation Procedures

1. Use sufficiently strong materials and equipment for transportation and lifting.
2. Insert thick pieces of rag or corrugated cardboard when hanging busduct with rope to prevent
the busduct from damages. For busduct rated 2500A and above, pieces of strong wood should
be used.
3. Examine the conductor contact surface or insulation for damages before joining the busduct.
Ensure that the joint areas are not soiled or dirty.
4. After proceed to normal joining procedure, perform Megger test. It is recommended to perform
partial Megger test for each busduct during joining works.
5. Ensure that the ends of busduct are protected against water and dust should the installation
halted before completion.

3.1 Jointing Procedures

1. Determine the male and female sides of the two busduct
which to be connected together.

Leaf Spring

2. Align the busducts end to end.

3. Align the leaf springs so as the high tensile bolts can be fitted
through the busduct as depicted in the diagram.
4. Tighten the leaf springs until it becomes almost flat and until the snap-pin-hole on the high
tensile bolt is visible. Tighten the two bolts alternately to ensure even distribution of force is
applied to the busduct joint.
5. Insert the snap pins into the pin hole.

3.2 Horizontal Hanger

1. Prepare the angle metal support for busduct prior to hanger installation.
2. Hang the hanger rods from the ceiling and attach the angle metals at the height of the ceiling at
the height of the busduct to be laid. The minimum clearance between hanger rod and joint
center is 200mm.

3.3 Vertical Hanger

1. Drill 4 openings on the housing of the busduct with size of 12.
Install the busduct by joining from lower storey to the higher storey.
2. Install the fixed hanger and fix the busduct tightly.
3. Connect the busduct in sequence and install the spring hangers
to each floor accordingly.

3.4 Connection with Equipment

1. Apply the undermined values as yardsticks for the clamping torque of the conductor clamping
bolt.
Bolt Size

Clamping Torque (kg.cm)

M8

90 110

M 10

180 230

M 12

320 400

M 16

800 - 1000

2. Ensure that the blue surface of the Belleville Washer towards the inner side (conductor side)

3.5 Earthing of Housing

1. At the connection section of mutual busducts, the continuity of the earth is secured
automatically by fixing the joint cover.
2. For connection to equipment by using flange ends, the toothed lock washer would be
electrically connected with the flange of the equipment when the bolt is clamped.

3.6 Tap Off Unit

1. Remove the cover of each plug-in hole.
2. Ensure the Tap Off Unit handle is in OFF position.
3. By using the earth jaw of the box as guide, insert the clips of tap off unit.
4. Open the top cover of the box. Fasten the duct-fixing screws in the
box to firmly fix the tap off box to the busduct.

Plug In Hole

5. Installation complete.

Fasten the screw as

Earth Jaw
depicted.
1. Remove the tap hole cover. If the busduct is 3P5W type, extra care is require as not to damage
the earth during removal of the cover.

3.7 Tap Box

2. Open the cover of the Tap Box and insert the tap bar through the opening of the tap box and fix
the box to the top hole flange by fastening the screws.
3. Fix the box to the busduct housing using hanger clamps.
4. Connect the tap bars to the flexible links using the attached bolts.
5. Fix the top cover of the box.
6. Installation complete.

3.8 Installation of outdoor Type Busduct.

1. If the busduct is installed flatwise, the joint bolts shall be inserted from bottom to top. (The
head of bolt shall face the earth)

3.9 Expansion Unit

1. For horizontal-installed busduct, the expansion unit should be hanged edgewise (Edges of
busbars look up and down).
2. Two hangers are needed to support the expansion unit for horizontally installed busduct.
3. The external earth bard for 3P4W busduct needs to be connected once the expansion unit is
installed.

4.0 Inspection
1. Ensure busduct alignment is straight before energizing it.
2. Ensure all joints are tightened to recommended torque before energizing.
3. Measure the insulation resistance of the busduct before energizing. Under dry atmosphere, the
value of resistance should be 100 M (500V Megger). However, the resistance value could not
be specified due to different length of the busduct route and environmental condition.
4. In case of reading value less than 10 M, thorough examination is required as there exist factor
which decrease the insulation and energizing is not recommended.
5. Check for any water ingress due to leaks from the building piping or other facilities.
6. Check for adverse temperature rise after energizing the busduct.
7. If there is abnormal temperature in the joint areas, de-energize the busduct and examine the
tightness of the joint and if appropriate torque is used.

5.0 Maintenance
1. Periodic inspection should be performed to detect any problems with the busduct system.
2. During inspection, check for loosen joint bolts, busduct temperature and moisture or water
dripping from leakages.
