create guidance objects on the Plan View Map real-time display.

0.12.2

Color binning
Color binning was the main addition to the HYDROpro 2.30 release.
The feature has application in both dredge and survey operations and
subsequently is available in both the Dredge and Survey flavors of
HYDROpro Construction and HYDROpro Navigation.
Color binning adds a new way to view and compare real-time data
with other data sets such as design surfaces or previous surveys of the
same area.

HYDROpro Release Notes

13

HYDROpro_2.31C_RelNotes_ENG.fm Page 14 Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:47 PM

Work areas can be created and gridded to a chosen bin size. Colors are
selected to represent data ranges when viewed on the Plan View Map
real-time display. A real-time data source (such as the dredge head
depth) is selected and used to update the value stored for each of the
gridded bins.
Each bin contains not just the most recent value but also the statistical
minimum, maximum, and average for the real-time data that has
occurred within the boundary of the bin. In addition to the real-time
data, a second dataset of design values can be imported and stored.
When viewed as a whole, the binned values within a work area form
two surfaces known as the Design surface and the Actual surface.
The Plan View
Map is used to
display the
Design and
Actual surfaces
as colored
representations
of the binned
values. This
display can also
be configured to
show the
difference
between the design and actual surfaces as a delta surface which
enables you to quickly identify hot spots.

0.12.3

Inherit
A Color Binning check box has been added to the New Project wizard.
When you select this check box, all work areas and color binning
configurations are inherited into the new project from an existing
project.

0.12.4

0.12.5

Operations Menu
The Survey menu has been renamed to the Operations menu to suit
dredge applications.

0.12.6

Survey Text
A new branch has been added to the
Guidance tab of the Survey Text
Properties dialog. The Current Bin tree
includes new data items associated with
the bin that is currently being updated.
Delta values from the dredge head to the
design (cut/fill) can be displayed in a
Survey Text display by selecting the
appropriate data item.

0.12.7

Quick Profile display

A Quick Profile display has been added to help visualization of the
color binning on the Plan View Map real-time display. The Quick
Profile display shows the profile view of the surface. It is a static
display and is not updated in real time. Drawing a line across the Plan
View Map with the mouse opens a Quick Profile display:

As from the HYDROpro 2.3 release, the Quick Profile display is no

longer available when in Operator mode.

16

HYDROpro Release Notes

HYDROpro_2.31C_RelNotes_ENG.fm Page 17 Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:47 PM

0.12.8

Binning Profile Display

A new Profile display has been added to the Dredge flavor to provide a
real-time dynamic display for the dredge operator. It displays the
binned data relative to a selected offset point (usually the dredge
head):

Features of this display include:

0.12.9

Dynamic view of both design and actual surfaces at the dredge

head (or another selected offset)

Can be viewed from side or rear of dredge

Can be a straight or arc section with center on the spud

Scaling can be automated or manually set

Bin updates
The color binning has been designed to cater for most applications.
Any numeric value provided by a service associated with the selected
vessel offset can be stored in the bins not only depths or reduced
levels. This opens up opportunities for other position based operations
such as environmental and magnetometer surveys.

HYDROpro Release Notes

17

HYDROpro_2.31C_RelNotes_ENG.fm Page 18 Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:47 PM

0.12.10

Swath
The swath feature can be configured from the Bin Updates dialog.
Depending on the application and bin resolution, you may need to
populate more than a single bin with each bin update. Swath allows
you to populate all the bins in a swath of predefined width and whose
orientation is determined by the track of the vessel offset.

0.12.11

Data source filter

Using the filters available in the Bin Updates dialog, the source data
can be filtered on both range and frequency. The range filter can be
used to remove any spikes in the data. The frequency filter can be used
to reduce the data input to assist performance.

0.12.12

ASCII import
A design surface or a previous survey can be imported from an ASCII
file of 3D points, which can be generated from CAD software,
spreadsheet software, Terramodel, or HYDROpro.

0.12.13

ASCII export
For any work area, the binned values and center point locations of the
associated bin can be exported to a delimited ASCII file. The ASCII
file can then be imported into CAD software, spreadsheet software,
Terramodel, or HYDROpro.

0.12.14

Infill
An infill function has been added to the Configure Work Area dialog
so you can interpolate the bin values to form a complete surface from a
sparse data set. The function interpolates the values for any bin in the
selected work area that does not contain real-time data and is within
the limits of the survey.

18

HYDROpro Release Notes

HYDROpro_2.31C_RelNotes_ENG.fm Page 19 Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:47 PM

0.12.15

Real-Time reports
To allow for better control automation on dredgers, the allowable
output rate of real-time reports to a COM port has been increased in
this release from 5 Hz to 10 Hz.

0.12.16

ASCII GO import
ASCII GO lists that have the GO name at the start of each line can
now be imported. This list type is the default Pile placement import
format.

0.13

Survey Flavor Enhancements

The following functions have been added to this release of the Survey
flavor.

Terramodel
This section details the changes to the Terramodel software 10.40.
0.16.1

New Sideslope command

The SideSlope command generates radiating and offset breaklines that
approximate the shape of a side slope projected from a given
horizontal alignment. The Horizontal Alignment (HAL) can have
elevations associated with it, or you can select a vertical alignment
(VAL) from which the SideSlope command will extract elevation
information.
This new command allows you to quickly and simply input a design
shape such as a channel section.
Using this command, you can:

Create up to five offset alignments on each side of the base

alignment. These offsets can serve as segment edges in a
channel template.

Configure a separate cross slope for each offset alignment.

Project the outermost offset alignment to a defined 3D surface,

a datum plane, or a sloping plane defined by one, two, or three
points, to create a side slope approximation using breaklines
that define the Digital Terrain Model (DTM).

Project a design surface inward on a closed alignment.

The SideSlope command effectively replaces the 3D and Slice

commands.
In many situations, the SideSlope command can also replace the
Design command.
The SideSlope command is part of the Site Design module.

required for the FDM. Numerous commands have been unsecured to
allow all file types required by Trimble field systems to be created,
validated, and supported within the basic Field Data Module (FDM)
system. However, the Hydrographic Data Management System
(HDMS) features still require the security key and the correct modules
to be installed on the key.
The following commands are grouped into the functions that they
support and are accompanied by a brief explanation.

Other issues addressed

Enhanced export of lines to DXF/DWG format
Exporting lines in DXF/DWG files has been enhanced. A single 3D
pline is created for each set, unless the set contains one or more arc
segments.
Exported sets with arc segments are created as a series of 3D plines
and arc entities as required.
Exporting DXF/DWG files has been enhanced to replace the . in
linetype names with _. The . is an invalid character for linetype
names within AutoCAD.
Point snap
The point snap functionality has been enhanced to snap to reference
file objects.

Enhanced pan and zoom abilities

Zoom In, Zoom Out Rotate the mouse wheel up to zoom in and down
to zoom out. If the keyboard focus is in a control which uses a mouse
wheel (for example, in a combo box or list box), you can still use the
zoom feature by holding down the [Ctrl] key and then using the mouse
wheel.
Zoom to Rectangle Works similar to the regular zoom command.
Press and hold the [Ctrl] key and middle mouse key (the wheel) and
then drag with the mouse to extend the zoom rectangle. When the
mouse key is released the view is zoomed.
Pan Press and hold the middle mouse button and then drag with the
mouse. A rubber line is drawn on the view to indicate the pan extent.
Recenter Press and hold the [Shift] key and then click with the middle
mouse button. The view will be recentered to the location you click.
Terramodel installation
The Terramodel installation program has been changed so that when
the software is removed, the environment variable still points to a
custom location of the file, tmodwin.ini.
Vertical exaggeration
In the ViewSet command, vertical exaggeration should not be enabled
for the plan and sheet views. In the Profile view, vertical exaggeration
must be enabled.
In the Profile view, you can set the exaggeration to 1 to effectively
disable exaggeration. Selecting objects by window will not function
properly if you do not follow these recommendations.
Double-click mouse for zoom to extents
Double-click the mouse wheel to execute an All command. This
enables the active view to be zoomed to its extents.

Pline First Vertex

A pline will no longer have its first vertex location drawn incorrectly
on the screen.
AutoDraft
AutoDraft has been updated so that it honors the Processing Order
setting when placing three-point blocks. This allows the Terramodel
user to have points processed either in record number order or point
number order for placing these blocks.
Plot file name
The name of a plot file sent to a plotter now reflects the name of the
Terramodel project.
Depth Weeding (Clash) Module problems resolved
In HYDROpro 2.30, if you had the Terramodel software 10.40 and the
HDMS module 1.9.6 also installed, using the Terramodel Depth
Weeding (Clash) module caused the Terramodel software to crash.
This problem no longer occurs in HYDROpro 2.31 which includes
HDMS module 1.99.

AGI Tilt Sensor

The HYDROpro equipment device for the AGI Tilt sensor has been
updated. A Cosine correction is now made on the raw inputs to correct
the pitch and roll of the dual axis sensor. This change has been
recommended by the AGI Tilt sensor manufacturer.

0.19

Dredge Head Tracking (Dredgtrk.dll)

The HYDROpro equipment device for dredge head tracking which
includes support for the AGI Tilt sensor has been improved to
calculate a full pitch and roll solution of the dredge head. Earlier
versions of this equipment handler only used the pitch from the AGI
Tilt sensor to calculate the observer service from the hinge point to the

dredge head. Based on user feedback that under certain conditions the
dredge vessel and arm may roll, the roll of the dredge arm has now
been included in the calculation.
A Cosine correction is now made on the raw inputs to correct the pitch
and roll of the dual axis sensor on recommendation by the AGI Tilt
sensor manufacturer.

0.20

NMEA Heading
The HYDROpro NMEA equipment handler custom settings have been
modified for the Heading service. When first configured, the custom
settings will now default to True Heading instead of Magnetic
Heading. This was changed was based on user feedback that most
heading devices provided a True heading.

0.21

Generic Tide
A new generic tide handler has been added to the existing Generic.dll
file to cater for tide gauges that output delimited ASCII strings. Only
the tide level information is decoded but multiple data sources in a
single string are supported. This handler is also available from the
Trimble Construction Partners website
(http://constructionpartners.trimble.com/logon.asp).

0.22

Preload Fix Box

The Preload fix box handler (Fixbox.dll) operates with the Trimble Fix
Box (P/N 19740). It is used to pre-trigger the compressors used in the
2D seismic survey market.
Preloading controls a ships compressor to start up a few seconds
before the required event. HYDROpro does this by triggering the Fix
Box by the user-defined event called Preload Delay.
When the compressor reaches its target pressure, it then fires. The
result is that the firing will be as close as possible to the predetermined
position of the event. At this time, the compressor firing unit sends a

closure to the Fix In connector on the Fix Box. The Fix Box sends a
Digital In signal to HYDROpro and the software records the position
of the seismic gun firing.
More details of the HYDROpro setup to use Preloading are available
from Trimble Support.

Coordinate System Manager

The Coordinate System Manager version 2.70 software is installed
with the HYDROpro 2.3 software. If the Current.csd file is already
installed on the computer and you choose to overwrite it during the
HYDROpro installation, a backup copy (Current.bak) of the
overwritten Current.csd will be created. This ensures that no
information is lost during the installation process.
