Executive Summary
The corporate world is always searching for ways to develop a competitive advantage in
the workplace through increased attention to peoples issues. Researchers continue to
find relevance to this and among all the factors that might affect job performance,
emotional intelligence, as an array of capabilities and competencies is said to influence
a persons ability to cope with environmental demands and pressures.
The study was conducted to answer the questions what is the emotional intelligence of
the employees in the seven factors namely Emotional Literacy, Self-regard/Self-Esteem,
Self-Management,

Self-Motivation,

Change

Resilience,

Interpersonal

Relations,

Integration of Head and Heart, the respondents level of job performance, the
relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance and whether it is
significant or not, the best predictor of job performance, and also to propose a program
meant for personnel development.
In gathering the significant data needed, the researchers prepared a letter signed by the
teacher, dean, and the adviser asking permission to conduct the study and to Ace
Centerpoints personnel manager for approval of our target respondents. After acquiring
the consent, the researchers distributed the questionnaires and immediately retrieved it
from the respondents for confidentiality purposes after answering. The study made use
of the Emotional Competency Profiler (ECP) to obtain data on the employees emotional
intelligence and a company-made Employees Performance Evaluation Sheet to get the
data for job performance.
The researchers used the frequency count to know the number of times the responses
occurred and obtained mean scores of both emotional intelligence and job performance
of the respondents. The researchers, with the help of a statistician, correlated the data

to know if there was a relationship between the two variables and if the relationship was
significant.
Results show that there is no relationship between emotional intelligence and job
performance when taken as a whole. Ace Centerpoints regular employees have high
level of emotional intelligence (EI) in all the seven (7) factors. Self motivation emerged
to be the highest and self-esteem turned out to be the lowest scored emotional
intelligence factor. All the components of emotional intelligence have negligible
correlation and have no significant relationship with job performance. Two components
of job performance are correlated and have significant relationship with the overall
emotional intelligence. The components include quantity of work with a higher
correlation (r = .288; p = .008) and dependability with a value of r = .278 and a value of
p = .011.
From all the results and findings, the researchers recommend that a further study will be
conducted to look into the various aspects of performance areas and correlate these
with EI to determine with more specificity so that specific performance areas and
specific competence on emotional intelligence will be properly addressed by a program
for the development of personnel.
