The above mentioned transducers of the types A/B/C

(see page 4) are applicated by the
mentioned manufacturers.
Modern exhaust gas regulation systems (fig. 1) reduce
nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 50%. For
this, high recirculation rates are necessary: Up to 20%
for gasoline engines and up to 60 %
for diesel engine.
Recirculation rates of this size are only possible with a
corresponding steering of the EGR valve. EGR valves
which are steered on by pressure difference (vacuum),
receive this by a valve or by a transducer like the EDW
(6, fig. 1 and fig. 2).

The electric transducer (EDW - fig. 2) consists of an

electric switch over valve (EUV) and a pressure
regulator. For the correct steering of the EGR valve, a
constant vacuum is necessary. It can be achieved by
the pressure regulator of the electric transducer, which
limits the incoming vacuum of the intake manifold or the
vacuum pump to a maximum of approximately 250
mbar. This vacuum is switched to the diaphragm of the
EGR valve via the electric switch over valve. The
electric switch over valve is stepped by a tactual
relation of 20% - 85%.

Checking (fig. 5)
- Connect the hand vacuum pump as a pressure gauge
on connection (2)
- Connect a vacuum source (e.g. electric vacuum
tester) on connection (1)
- Connection (3) remains open for airing. A possibly
exising filter (arrow, fig. 7) may remain connected.
- Approximately 600 mbar pressure difference to
connection (1)
Manometers target indication: 0 mbar

4. Atmosphere
5. Working pressure to the EGR valve
The electric switch over valve is a 3/2-way-valve, which
opens electrically on the vacuum side, so that the
vacuum can have an effect on the diaphragm of the
EGR valve and can air without electricity.
By the quick opening and closing of the valve, the
vacuum which is limited to 250 mbar and the incoming
atmosphere pressure build up the working / steering
pressure. This working pressure is directly influenced
by the tactual relation (TR).
An EGR valve opens - depending on the type - at a TR
of 30% and is completely open at a TR of 80% (fig. 4).
The tactual relation is steered by an engine registration
field. R.P.M. and throttle are the incoming signals.

- Voltage of 12 V on the electric transducer (EDW) with

100% switch on time - read the measure indication on
the manometer immediately.
Target indication: 200 to maximum 250 mbar
The decisive pressure difference is the one which is
indicated immediately after installing the voltage.
Afterwards, the pressure difference rises slowly.
