MAIN BOILER FOR LNGC

SERVICE REPORT OF DUMPING SILENCER

1. INTRODUCTION
The orifice plate of dumping silencer was removed on the following two (2) vessels.
1) Vessel A on Oct. 2006 (before gas trial)
2) Vessel B on April 2006 (after vessel delivery, about 1 year operation period)
The cause of trouble is welding defect for orifice plate, i.e. incomplete penetration by poor
workmanship and improper inspection by NDT (Non Destructive Testing).

2. DUMPING SILENCER
Please refer to the attached drawings of ARRGT OF STEAM DUMPING SILENCER and
DUMPING SILENCER ORIFICE PLATE but note that detail design (orifice hole number) might be
different for each project.
The following picture is typical damping line diagram. The damp steam from main boiler
desuperheater is derived to main condenser by reducing its pressure and temperature. The
subjected silencer reduces the steam pressure by using four (4) stages orifice plates. Also, the dump
steam temperature is decreased by spray, which is installed on the downstream of silencer.
