LESSON 6.

Working with consultants

Part 4b. Coordination in Revit.
Part 5. Interoperability : Working Multiplatform

Part 4b.Coordination in Revit

Coordination will begin by linking multiple files together.
We can divided the Project in many different ways to meet our
workflow requierements.
Most often each discipline will develop at least one separate Revit
Project file.

Because there are several worklow possibilities this lesson will focus
on the coordination among a traditional team form by these
components:

Architect
Structural engineer
MEP engineer

Schematic coordination for Acciona

Coordination tools in Revit

There are three distinct tools in Revit.

Linked Models
Linking models together provides full visual fidelity of the referenced content. You
can turn the links on or off, half-tone data, or enhance it with color or line pattern
overrides.
Copy/Monitor
Is consider the most powerful tool available in Revit offering these benefits
Intelligent Bond . Choose elements to monitor, and the degree.
Multiple modes. Copy & monitor.
Geometry Creation. When is used in Copy mode (In the source file based
on object in the linked file)
Interference Check.
Check between categories in a single model or between linked models

Linked models
Linked Project files must be generated with the same platform version of Revit.
As discussed in the last class, a BEP should include an agreement on all modeling
and coordination software to be used on a Project, includin the versions of each
listed programs.

SHARED COORDINATES
There are two coordinate systems in a Revit Project:
Project internal
Cannot be changed. The true origin is refered as Project Start Up Point and
the Project Based Point can be reset to this point by setting it to unclipped
(right-clicking and selecting Move to Start Up Point)
Another components of this system are Project North & True North
Shared Coordinates
Consist on a single origin and true north orientation which can be
synchronized between model and even CAD files.

SHARED COORDINATES ex.

In the diagram you can see and ARCH model and STRUC. model linked together,
each model was created using a different Project base point, but their shared
coordinates were synchronized.

Copy/Monitor
Ex. Copying the structural grid into your architectural file. If the grid moves or
changes with updates, youll be instantly alerted to the change.
These tool can be function with DATUM (levels and grids) as well as model elements
such as colums, walls and floors.
Is used first to established the intelligent bonds between linked elements and host
elements and then exits another useful tool, the Coordination Review which
automatically monitors differences between host and linked elements which were
previously bound with the Copy/Monitor command.

Copy/Monitor
Again we reiterate the necessity of developing a BEP to determine important
aspects of the collaboration process.
For this we must plan:
-Owner of grids and levels
-Owner of floor slabs
-Are structural walls copied, monitored or just linked?
-How often are models exchanged?
-How are coordination conflicts resolved?
Without open an honest communication, these coordination tolos will discover
conflicts

Copy/Monitor
Copy monitor command allows you to create local copies of linked elements for
better graphic control of the elements while maintaining an intelligent bond to the
linked elements.
If the linked element changes, these changes are detected in the Coordination
Review tool.

Coordination Review
When a link model is reloaded, which will happen automatically when the host
model is opened, monitored elements will check for any inconsistencies.
If any are found you will see a warning message that a linked instance needs
coordination review.
To perform coordination review switch to the collaborate tab and select
coordination review. After that you can decidesd.
-Postpone
-Reject
-Accept Difference
-Modify, Rename, Move
-Ignore new elements
-Copy new elements
-Delete element
-Copy sketch
-Update Extents
