Product Profile

Advanced Protection
First and foremost, the E3 Overload Relays provide advanced motor protection. What once required a combination of specialized protection
relays can now be accomplished cost-effectively with one compact device. User-adjustable parameters for all trip and warning functions
allow the E3 Overload Relays to be tailored to the application for providing a precise envelope of protection.

Thermal Overload

Jam

Precise hall effect current sensing combined with

microprocessor algorithm processing delivers accurate motor
thermal protection

A quick response to a mechanical jam reduces the potential for

damage to the motor and the power transmission components

Trip class adjustable from 5 to 30 in increments of one

Manual and automatic reset modes are available

Trip level adjustable from 50 to 600% FLA

Trip delay adjustable from 0.1 to 25.0 seconds
Warning level adjustable from 50 to 600% FLA

Reset level adjustable from 1 to 100% thermal capacity utilized

Warning level adjustable from 1 to 100% thermal capacity
utilized
E3 Plus offers a second FLA setting for two-speed motor
protection

Phase Loss

Underload
A drop in current can be a sign of pump cavitation, tool or belt
breakage rapid detection can help minimize damage and aid
in reducing production downtime
Trip level adjustable from 10 to 100% FLA
Trip delay adjustable from 0.1 to 25.0 seconds

Responsive phase loss detection protects motors from the

second leading cause of motor failure

Warning level adjustable from 10 to 100% FLA

Trip level factory set at 100% current imbalance

PTC Thermistor Monitoring E3 Plus

Trip delay adjustable from 0.1 to 25.0 seconds

Ground (Earth) Fault E3 Plus

Provides enhanced motor protection in cases where motor

overheating cannot be detected by monitoring current alone
(blocked ventilation or high ambient temperature)

Class 1 low level (arcing) ground fault protection can provide

early detection before a catastrophic fault develops

Built-in circuitry for monitoring motor winding-embedded

positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors

The core balance (zero sequence) sensor is incorporated into

devices rated through 90A

Current Imbalance

Trip level adjustable from 1.0 to 5.0 amperes

Prevent increased motor heating that results from negative

sequence currents associated with current imbalance

Trip delay adjustable from 0.1 to 25.0 seconds

Warning level adjustable from 1.0 to 5.0 amperes
Selectable trip inhibit feature can be employed to prevent
opening of the motor starting contactor when the ground fault
current rises beyond the sensors saturation point and has the
potential to exceed the contactors interruption rating

Trip level adjustable from 10 to 100%

Trip delay adjustable from 0.1 to 25.0 seconds
Warning level adjustable from 10 to 100%

Remote Trip

Stall

External devices such as vibration sensors can be monitored

through the E3 Overload Relays discrete inputs

Monitor motor acceleration on start to ensure full speed is

achieved in the proper amount of time

Discreet inputs are configurable with an option for assigning

the remote trip function

Trip level adjustable from 50 to 600% FLA

Enable time adjustable from 0 to 250 seconds

Communications
Built-in DeviceNet communications streamlines the effort of connecting a motor starter to an automation network, enabling remote start-stop
control and providing access to vital motor operating data. Having fewer components to install reduces the time and cost of installation as
well as improving system reliability.

Control
The E3 overload relays provide integral inputs and outputs that can simplify the control architecture. Additionally, the Series B E3 Plus
Overload Relay offers increased control flexibility with DeviceLogix capabilities. Using RSNetWorx for DeviceNet (version 3.0 or later),
function block programs can be configured and saved to an E3 Plus overload relay to operate simple logic routines. The function blocks are
programmed using standard Boolean operators such as AND, OR, XOR, NOT plus timers, counters and latches. In addition to allowing the use
of the integral hardware and network inputs, protective functions can also be used as inputs to trigger outputs. For example, the Ground Fault
protection function could be used to control Output A of the E3 Plus Overload Relay for operation of a circuit breaker shunt trip mechanism.
DeviceLogix has many applications and the implementation is typically only limited to the imagination of the programmer.

Benefits of DeviceLogix:
Faster sense-to-actuate response

Increased uptime through distributed control architecture

Local processing

Reliable operation under failures or during maintenance operations

Higher network performance

Increased system/machine modularity
Increased system reliability

Control distributed throughout machine

Improved diagnostics and reduced troubleshooting

Reduced program size in the master improves processing and scan times

Reduced potential points of failure at system level
