Honesty and integrity are defined as qualities that allow an individual to do the right thing as often and as much as possible, and when they have done they wrong thing admit to what they have done. Honesty is the adherence to the facts and sincerity. To perform honestly would be: to tell the truth, to be able to be trustworthy, to not cheat and to be true to yourself. Honesty is doing the right thing, integrity; following through and being able to be counted on, trustworthy; you will not take credit, money or rewards for things you didnt perform or do, fairness/ honor; meaning what u say, sincerity; and finally you will act and explain yourself as you truly are, genuine. When a person is dishonest they will act in a way that they know is wrong and, if asked to explain, will proceed to lie about what they have done. Being dishonest usually will catch up with the person. If dishonesty lets them get too far, it will go to their head and will take it to an extreme, making it much better to start out honestly. Honesty is a great virtue which is adored all over the world. It is rare to find a truly honest man. A man is born with the quality of honesty, and then, it depends how he is brought up by his parents. If the parents are themselves honest, it cannot be confidently said that their children will also be honest, although the children of honest parents are generally found to be honest and disciplined in life. As the sun is known to all by its light and energy, so an honest person can also be identified by his nature and behaviour. An honest man succeeds in life better than a dishonest man. He is trusted by the people, and respected for his moral character. A dishonest person may cheat some people some time, but not all the time. The Bible says, "Our sin will find us out". Dishonesty is a sin which must come out sooner or later. A dishonest person is hated and disbelieved by all, and does not get support or sympathy from anyone. Thus his life becomes miserable. History tells us how honest men in the world have prospered in life by their hard labour and sincere efforts. An honest man becomes morally strong. He keeps his head high in the society. His character is like a sharp sword made of stainless steel. To err
is human. If an honest man commits a mistake or does anything
wrong, he will be excused by the people, because everyone will accept the fact that he must have done it by mistake or ignorance. But if the same misdeed is committed by a dishonest man, they will not excuse him, because none believes him. Thus an honest man moves in the society freely like pure and sacred flower spreading sweet smell in all directions. But when a dishonest man is met on the road, people try to avoid his sight or company lest they should fall into his evil trap or get into some trouble for nothing. So it is said, 'honesty is the best policy'. One, who remains honest all his life, honesty becomes his goodwill in the life's game. It is honesty that leads him to his goal. He becomes fearless, straightforward, outspoken, and possesses clear conception of everything on earth; and hence he is capable of taking correct decision and giving faultless judgement in any matter. Integrity goes hand in hand with honesty, seeing that each word uses the other in its definition. Integrity is the quality or state of being undivided. It is moral soundness, honesty, and freedom from corrupting influence or motive. It can be used especially with reference to the fulfilment of contracts, the discharge of agencies, or trusts. Integrity allows a person to be proud of what kind of morals they have, what kind of things they do and are proud and unafraid to tell the truth. If a person with integrity has done something wrong, than they probably did not purposely do it and are absolutely fine with admitting to it and taking responsibility for it. Honesty and integrity also have a meaning for me. I will do my best not to do the wrong thing but if I have chosen to do so, for me to be honest, I will tell the truth to my parents, teachers, friends and anyone I speak to or come in contact with. Telling the truth, no matter what the consequences are, in the long run it is for the better. I have owned up to my mistakes, such as borrowing a disk, rather than being ignorant and lying that I had nothing to do with it. But, next time, not taking the disk is the first thing is the lesson I have learned. It was stupid in the first place, and integrity is what allows me to write this essay.
Honesty and integrity are extremely important aspects or
character traits that will earn respect and honour, if used. Disregarding them would be a mistake, making it very hard to get by throughout life. And if a habit of doing the right thing is made, lying would absolutely never be necessary. In my opinion I think that integrity is a strong part of my character. Integrity is hard to explain but a big portion of it is controlled by the values that you choose to have in your life. The values that I find most important in my life are honesty, and religion. With these as my most important values I am sure to achieve the highest integrity possible. The way that values and morals relate to integrity is that you need both to achieve greatness with out you values there is no possible way to truly achieve integrity. In my opinion my greatest value would have to be honesty. The reason that I chose this as my most important value is because without honesty I cant achieve the goals that I have set before myself in my life. With honesty as my most important value I am insured to reach success. The success of having a good integrity is high in my life. I try my best and do what is needed to reach that goal. The way that this plays a role in my life is say for example a person drops a 20 dollar bill now a person without honesty would keep the 20 but I myself can honestly say that I would give it back without hesitation. The reason that I can say this is because it just happened the other day at work a lady had bought a bunch of food that had totaled up to 20 dollars she handed me a 50 and started to walk away but before she could I had brought it to her attention that she had given me a 50 I handed her the change she thanked me greatly and walked away. Knowing that I did this I can truly say that I am an honest person. Thus, we can see that honesty and integrity are fundamental ingredients that are required for healthy living in society, and that it should be cultivated by one and all for the betterment of mankind.
