participation with and within a community to maintain and enhance its
environment to the benefit of both the institution and the community ( Peak,
1998, p.117, cited in Ledingham & Bruning, 2001, p.527)
Geoff Barbaro believes organizations need to create and maintain closer links
with communities in order to both function and participate in the questions of
public policy that provide them with the ability to operate effectively (2006)

Apa itu Aktivis?

Berikut ada beberapa definisi aktivis menurut para ahli :
Activism has varying forms and definitions. One definition of activism by public relations
scholars is: the process by which groups of people exert pressure on organizations or other
institutions to change policies, practices, or conditions that the activist find problematic (Smith,
2005. p.5)
An activist public is a group of two or more individuals who organize in order to influence
another public or publics through action that may include education, compromise, persuasion,
pressure tactics, or force (L. Grunig, J. Grunig, & Dozier, 2002, p.446; L. Grunig, 1992, p.504)
Activist groups usually have insufficient power in their own right to change. They are obliged to
seek the support of other stakeholders, increasingly using the internet in addition to traditional
news media to generate momentum for their cause (Coombs, 1998)
