Exams: The exams will include the material covered in the classes, in the textbook, and in
the homework. All exams are required, and unexcused absences will result in a failure.
Students who exceptionally cannot attend an exam must contact the instructor before the

exam. Only last minute illnesses or emergencies will be considered as a possible excused
absence after the exam has taken place.
Tests/Quizzes: Approximately once every 7 days, you are required to take a test or quiz to
evaluate your learning progress. The tests/quizzes will usually be in a problem solving or
multiple-choice format and will be given usually in a problem solving session, which is the
Friday for this summer B class. No makeup test or quiz will be given.
Homework: Homework will be assigned and solutions will be posted. It will also be
collected selectively. It is extremely important that you perform the homework on your
own before you utilize the solutions to identify potential errors.
Reading Assignments: You are required to read the text before going to the class. The
classroom time will be used mainly to amplify the textbook material by discussing related
material and applying basic principles to the solutions of problems.
Grading: Exams will be constructed such that the median expected grade of the class will
be about 70. If the median of any of the exams is less than 70, a correction method will be
applied. The final grade will be awarded based on the exams, tests/quizzes, and
assignments according to the following grade scale: 90-100: A, 80-89: B, 70-79: C, 60-69:
D, below 60: F.
Attendance: Regular attendance is expected from students in order for the students to be
successful in this course. The attendance will be recorded through the circulation of a class
roll. Active class participations are encouraged.
Others: Academic dishonesty is a serious offense and will be treated according to the
University policy. The instructor will abide by the Universitys policy on religious holidays.
