successfullyimplementedinthepresentsimulator.Theconversionreactionsinto
heaviersubstances,suchas hemiformal andpoly(oxymethylene)hemiformals,
methylene glycol andpoly(oxymethylene)glycols,weretakenfromstateoftheart

Forvalidationpurposes,acomparisonoftheperformanceoftheabsorption

TheMethylolation systemofreactions,thedissolvingreactions,theCannizzaro
andtheneutralizationreactionswereproperlymodeled,usingreactionratesand
parametersthatarenotconstantthroughoutthecolumn(crudeassumption),but
varyanddependonthelocaloperatingconditions,suchastemperature,pressure,
concentrations,andpH(refinedassumption).
Allparametersandvaluescorrespondedtotypicaloperatingconditionsof
standardHCHOabsorptioncolumns.
Conclusions
TheUFCproductionresults,withrespecttotheconversionrates andthesolids
produced,wereveryrealistic,whencomparedtoindependentmeasurementsin
typicalHCHOunits.
TheUFCproductionsimulatorhasenabledtheimmediateandinexpensive,yet
trustworthycalculationofvariousconditionsforalternativescenariosthatcan
facilitatefutureoptimizationofformaldehydeplants.
