No Farewell to Paradise
Saint Michael the guardian of Eden
Saint Joseph now victorious in heaven
Two cities these two saints blessed
Girard and Arma will be deeply missed!

Cradled in the southeast of Kansas endless plains

Threshold to Missouri, bearer of golden grains!
Farmers toiling, cattle grazing, earths fertile womb
A barn to the nation, feeding every generation!

Dark clouds may swirl into twisters scare,

Sirens wail, hearts tremble in fear,
Flash floods warning, or drought and heat,
In paradise, courage and hope will always meet!

Five years ago I came here and asked where am I?

By bishops words, was it Gods will, I didnt know why?
What laid ahead I could only imagine
But after works and prayers, alas this is heaven!

Thank you Lord for bringing me here,

Thank you for all the people here who love so dear!
Bless them and guide them that they may see
That I have to go, your will, I obey!

No farewell to paradise
Where I go is a sacrifice!
Pray that where I go is with loving presence and unity
In Holy Cross Parish, the community!

TEENS ENCOUNTER CHRIST

Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) is a 3-day retreat based on the

Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ. TEC is about encountering
Christ in a way that many have never experienced before. On a
TEC retreat, you will have the opportunity to grow in your
relationship with Christ through talks, group discussion,
individual reflection and prayer, and sharing in the Sacraments.
Not only is TEC about faith, it is also about having fun and
getting to know other youth and young adults from around the
Wichita Diocese. For an inspiring opportunity to grow in your
relationship with Christ and build lasting Christian friendships,
TEC is the place to be! The weekend is led by a team of youth
and adults, with a priest as spiritual director. Many from St.
Michael parish will be attending the St. Paul TEC July 25-27.
Any youth or young adult that has finished sophomore year of
high school or adult that works with youth is encouraged to
attend. There are applications at the back of the church or you
can register at http://catholicdioceseofwichita.org/faith-tec/tec
Please promote this Southeast Kansas retreat, as retreats like
this are rare in our area. For more information about TEC, you
can talk to Paula Sevart or Chelsea VanLeeuwen.

MIDWEST CATHOLIC FAMILY CONFERENCE

Contemporary musician - will be performing his spirit-filled,
joyful music on stage. There are pamphlets about the
conference in the back of the church. Register online now:
www.catholicfamilyconference.org or call 316-618-9787. If you

FIRST CENTURY APOSTLE REMEMBERED

When Thomas, the Apostle, is mentioned, most Christians
think of the Doubting Thomas who didnt want to believe
that Jesus had been resurrected. Yet, he was much more than
this. He was a man of courage and intellect and hes mentioned
more AFTER Calvary than any other apostle except Peter and
John.
Were uncertain as to where he was born, but he grew up as a
carpenter with close ties to the Holy Family. However, he wasnt
a fisherman like most of the apostleshe left Jerusalem to begin
his ministry in Parthia (Iran) and later to India and China.
Did you ever wonder WHY Thomas wasnt present when
Jesus appeared before the other apostles even though the door
was locked? Some scholars think he didnt believe the
resurrection and by not appearing, he was expressing his
disbelief. We all know the story, of how on the second visit, he
saw the nailmarks and put his hand in Jesus side and believed.
Weve all had doubts as Thomas displayed and we didnt believe
until someone PROVED it to us. NoticeThomas said, My
Lord and My God. There is significance to this. He could have
just said My God, but by saying My Lord, he was saying
much more. He was acknowledging that Jesus was not only
Divine, but that he was the Lord of his life, the ruler of his
actions. He admitted that Jesus commandments were now to be
HIS! {Fr.Roger told the preceding story}
While on a mission to India in the year, 72 A.D., some
Hindu priests feared that Christianity might surpass Hinduism,
and on July 3 of that year, several of them found Thomas
praying in a cave near his home and wounded him with a spear.
He dragged himself some distance to a nearby chapel, and in
the presence of several of his disciples, grasped a stone cross,
said some prayers and died. Here was a man who should be
remembered for his faith, not for having been a doubter.
