The Art of Brinkmanship

Grade 8 - St. Anne

And speak the same sound, attaining

transcendence

Beneath every great occurrence is an untold

history: The Tower of Babel tells a story of a
united humanity, a single language, as if birds
practicing the same art of how to flutter their
wings; but the firmament they knew, had
something else underneath.
In our sovereign city that was erstwhile known,
The hearts of our fellow noblemen were sown.
Betrothed were their unity, they thought, to
heavens throne
And thus the Tower of Babel was born.
In our indurate city, our men mastered
supremacy
A quality that God did not gratefully foresee.
Behold the Lord was in frightening furor;
In our city sprang new lingos and dreadful horror.
The city that we fear has evanesced,
Took also our proud coalescence.
We all speak of friendship - vriendskap, amizade,
youyi
We sing the same song, just in a different
euphony
In this city we suppose has vanished,
we are conceding that the walls may no longer be
re-established.
And the task to be free from miscommunication is
one to accomplish,
But its only possible through our mother tongue
English.
That was once a city that we had known,
It has withered and faded though its people ought
to grow
And despite our bondage of incongruity;
We are still fighting to be free and establish
harmony
This is now our city, that were sure wont flee
Gone are the days when we couldnt speak and
foresee
That without comprehension, useless is humanity
We have learned to build our town with amity
Goodbye to our distinctions and the times when
we were savage
Welcome to our new city, and our new age
Welcome to our town, our work, our power, and
our heritage
Welcome to our multiplicity but oneness in
language
Our new city welcomes development and
prosperity
Our phrases we now speak with the same identity
Perhaps, our variance will merge into one
No more strings will be coming undone
This is now a city that tells a tale of our evergrowing-progress
The legend of how we learn to disband our
cultural differences
How we learned to value deference
