Ed-Vance CALC
Secondary (18-20

Ed-Vance is an
accelerated credit
program for students
age 18-20 who are
returning to complete
their Ontario School
Secondary Diplomas.
Students take three
two-hour classes per
day over a nine week
quadmester and can
earn up to twelve credits
in an academic year.
Many students continue
their studies at college
or university.

The City Adult Learning Centre (CALC) offers a variety of credit


courses for adult students wishing to complete their Ontario
Secondary School Diploma, prepare for college or university, or
gain job related training. We provide quality education -- tuition
free!
Through assessment of prior education and current skills, and
discussion of career goals, an educational plan is prepared which
meets the individual student's needs.
Our school is conveniently located at 1 Danforth Avenue,
Toronto, on the southwest corner of Broadview and Danforth
(Broadview subway station).

CanEx Co-op
CanEx Co-op is a program designed
to assist foreign trained professionals
gain valuable experience in the
Canadian workplace, assist them in
developing language proficiency and
help them master the job hunting
skills so necessary in the current
economic environment, all while gaining secondary school credits.
In CanEx, students spend a minimum of three weeks in a
classroom setting fine tuning their resumes and interview skills,
learning about the Canadian workplace and searching for
placements relevant to their field.

Personal Support Worker Program
This program enables students to earn a Personal Support Worker
Certificate, acquire the skills and knowledge to work as a personal
support worker, gain practical experience in a health care
environment, and earn nine credits towards Ontario Secondary
School Diploma. It is a full-time, eight hundred and ten hours,
twenty-seven week program.

Practical Nursing Program


This program was developed with the School of Nursing at George
Brown College. Students spend one semester at CALC and
qualifying students are granted direct entry to the Practical Nursing
program with 3 advanced standing credits. Students in this program
qualify for admission to Semester 2 at George Brown College and
earn secondary school credits.

Police Foundations Program


CALC Secondary students have the opportunity to earn college
credits towards a Police Foundations diploma while completing their
OSSD.

Ed-Vance Online Co-op


Ed-Vance Co-op is also part of the Ed-Vance program. Students
can earn up to six credits in one semester while working full-time.
Course work is done online, allowing for minimal disruptions to work
schedules.

Student Life - Where You Belong


Guidance and Student Services provides advice and assistance with registration and course selection,
to help students choose the appropriate pathway to reach their academic and career goals, including
providing information on applying to college and university. Help is also given to deal with a variety of
personal issues that may be affecting a students performance at school. Experienced and committed
counsellors are available throughout the school year on either a drop-in or appointment basis.

What Sets Us Apart


There are four registration periods a year and each term lasts nine weeks. You must be free to attend
school every day, Monday to Friday, two hours for each class you choose. The first class of the day
begins at 8: 15 a.m.and the last one at 1:00 p.m. Check our website to learn the date of the next
registration session An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)is earned after thirty credits are
successfully completed. If you have been to school elsewhere, held a job, raised children, immigrated to
Canada or had other learning experiences, you may apply for Prior Learning Assessment Review
(PLAR) and be awarded up to 26 credits towards your diploma. This process allows many adult students
to earn a diploma in less than one year.

Parent and Community Engagement


The School's Library has books, journals and computers for student use. Our cafeteria serves delicious,
nutritious food at reasonable prices. CALC is conveniently located at 1 Danforth Avenue, Toronto on the
southwest corner of Broadview and Danforth (Broadview subway station).
