INTRODUCTORY RITES
INTRODUCTION
When the people are gathered, the commentator introduces the celebration. The Celebrant,
the concelebrants, and ministers process while the Entrance Hymn is sung.
When they arrive at the threshold of the sanctuary, they make a profound bow. Then, each
one goes to their designated place. The Celebrant then venerates the altar with a kiss, and
incenses the cross and the altar. Then, with the ministers, he goes to the chair.

When the Entrance Chant is concluded, the Celebrant and the faithful, standing, sign
themselves with the Sign of the Cross, while the Celebrant, facing the people, says:
n the name of the Father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.
The people reply:
Amen.
Then the Celebrant, extending his hands, greets the people, saying:
Peace be with you.

The people reply:
And with your spirit.

The Celebrant may very briefly introduce the faithful to the Mass of the day with these or
similar words:
Brothers and sisters, we are gathered this morning

to celebrate the feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola,
a man of the frontiers, of a fiery passion
and with a unifying personality.
Saint Ignatius had the spirit of a great explorer:
always on the lookout for new frontiers
where he can better love and serve God,
always on fire seeking Gods greater glory:
a vision and passion he shared
with a good company of friends.
Today, as we celebrate the feast of Saint Ignatius,
and, at the same time, commemorate
the bicentennial of the Restoration of the Society of Jesus,
let us ask for the grace
to have a mind and heart like that of Saint Ignatius,
eager and ready to join the great adventure
to which Christ our Lord invites us.

PENITENTIAL ACT
Then follows the Penitential Act, to which the Celebrant invites the faithful, saying:
Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general confession:
I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:

who raised up St Ignatius of Loyola in your Church
to further the greater glory of your name,
grant that, by his help, we may imitate him
in fighting the good fight on earth
and merit to receive with him a crown in heaven.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

There seemed to be a fire burning in my heart.

O Lord, you have deceived me

because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus

and count them as refuse,
in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him,
not having a righteousness of my own, based on law,
but that which is through faith in Christ,
the righteousness from God that depends on faith;
that I may know him and the power of his resurrection,

John 1:35-39
The Deacon proceeds to the ambo, accompanied, by ministers with incense and candles. Then

let us praise God, our loving Father
for the gifts he has bestowed on the Church and the world
through the person and mission of Saint Ignatius of Loyola,
and through the works of the Society of Jesus,
while praying for our needs
and the needs of all Gods people, as we say:
GLORY AND PRAISE TO YOU, O LORD!

We praise you, Lord, for your gift of Saint Ignatius to your Church
which he served with passionate generosity
and a singular loyalty to the Bishop of Rome, the Vicar of Christ.
We pray for our Holy Father, Pope Francis,
for our Bishop, Luis Antonio,
and all the leaders of your people.
Give them the courage and daring of your first apostles,
who set out for the frontiers to proclaim your word.
Let us pray to the Lord:

We praise you, Lord, for giving us our Filipino nation,

upon which you have continuously showered your graces
and showed your favour.
We pray for our country and all nations of the world;
may you bless its people:
reconcile those who are divided,
relieve the hungry and oppressed,
bring joy to the sorrowing,

We praise you, Lord, for the gift of the Society of Jesus,

which Ignatius founded as a community of apostles

and all who collaborate in the work of the Society.

The Celebrant, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly
raised above the altar with both hands, silently he prays:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. The Celebrant pours wine and a
little water into the chalice, saying quietly:
By the mystery of this water and wine

may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
The Celebrant then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both
hands, silently he prays:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

Then he places the chalice on the corporal. After this, the Celebrant, bowing profoundly, says

With humble spirit and contrite heart

He also incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. Then, the deacon incenses the
Celebrant, the concelebrants and the people. Then the Celebrant, standing at the side of the
altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:
Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity

and cleanse me from my sin.
Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands,
he says:
Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters),

that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people rise and reply:
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,

The Celebrant takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice,

PRIVATE PREPARATION
The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the
final time, however, is grant us peace said. Then the Celebrant, with hands joined, says
quietly:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,

who by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world;
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
The Celebrant genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or
above the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

When the distribution of Communion is over, the Celebrant, a Deacon or an acolyte purifies
the paten over the chalice and also the chalice itself. While he carries out the purification, the
priest says quietly:
What has passed our lips as food, O Lord,

may we possess in purity of heart,
that what has been given to us in time
may be our healing for eternity.
Then the Celebrant may return to the chair. If appropriate, a sacred silence may be observed
for a while, or a psalm or other canticle of praise or a hymn may be sung.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Standing at the altar or at the chair and facing the people, with hands joined, the Celebrant
says:
Let us pray.
All pray in silence with the Celebrant for a while, unless silence has just been observed. Then
the Celebrant, with hands extended, says the Prayer after Communion:
ay the sacrifice of praise

that we have offered with thanksgiving
in honor of St Ignatius, O Lord,
bring us to exalt your majesty without end.

PRAYER TO SAINT IGNATIUS

The commentator invites everyone to kneel. The Celebrant, together with the concelebrating
priests, remain standing, while saying the following prayer with the people:
ather and Master Ignatius,

discerner of the ways of God,
faithful friend of the Lord,
and humble servant of Christ and the gospel
beneath the banner of the cross;
untiring seeker of the greater glory of God
through discernment and prayer,
docile disciple in obedience to the Lord
and his spouse the Church;
you desired neither riches nor honor,
but were content instead to be poor with the poor Christ
spurned with Christ spurned,
as long as the Holy Name of Jesus our Savior
was announced to all peoples.
intercede for us with the Father of mercies,
that we may seek and find in all things Gods divine presence
and know his sovereign will.
To you, Father Ignatius,
and to the heavenly Society
we entrust ourselves,
so that, confirmed in faith,
refreshed in hope,
and inflamed by evangelical charity,
we may love and serve the Lord in all things
and renew each day our prayer of offering:
Take, Lord, receive all my liberty,
my memory, understanding, my entire will
all that I have and possess;
you have given to me,
to you, Lord, I return it.
all is yours now;
do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace;
that is enough for me.

THANKSGIVING FROM THE HEAD CHAPLAIN

Words of thanksgiving maybe given by the Head Chaplain, after which, if necessary, any
brief announcements to the people follow by the Commentator. Then the dismissal takes
place.

The Celebrant receives his miter, and, extending his hands over the people, says:
