of August we have the opportunity to be spiritually refreshed.
We call it the Week of Refreshment, and each summer we
bring in special guests to encourage and bless our people.

summer: first, Johnson Dorn,
pastor of Hope Chapel near Saluda, SC, who will be teaching
during the week. Hope Chapel has been in revival for the
last year and is experiencing

teaching and encouraging, and

make it the law of the land in all fifty states. The impact would be
enormous for evangelical churches. For that reason, Ill be preaching
a special series of sermons through the month of July to help our
congregation understand what this decision and other developments
mean for the church and our future ministry. The sermon series is
called The Gospel in a Changing America, and each week well
focus on the biblical teaching on marriage, sexuality and the role of
the church in the larger culture. I hope youll plan on joining us.

July 8: 5th Grade Mystery Trip
$25 per person

Before we send our 5th graders to middle school, we are taking them on a mystery trip. Parents,
well give you the details as long as you promise not to tell the secret! We will load the bus and
go to a mystery destination for a full day of fun! Registration is required, so please email Kristen

July 12: Small Group Hangtime

From 12 to 3 p.m. at Frankies Fun Park
$10 per person

Right after Sunday School, our kids are invited to load the buses with their small group leaders
and head over to Frankies Fun Park in Irmo. We will have lunch there and then give each child a
fun pass with access to the bumper boats, go-carts, laser tag, mini-golf, the fun house and the
arcade! Pick-up will be at 3:30 p.m. in the main LBC Parking Lot. Registration is required, so
please email Kristen King at kking@lexingtonbaptist.org to attend.

July 14: Preschool Playdate

10 a.m. at Virginia Hylton Park

Our preschoolers are invited to bring their parents for a fun morning of play and popsicles. Well
bring the popsicles (lots of popsicles!), and you all are invited to bring your friends for a great
day together!

July 23: Family Fun Night- Pancakes, PJs and Peter Pan
6 p.m. in the LBC Fellowship Hall

We are asking families to set aside some time each week for intentional time together. This
month, were having a fun movie night! Wear your PJs and join us for dinner as we flip lots of
pancakes! Well have great toppings, too, along with bacon and sausage. We will be showing the
movie Peter Pan while having interactive games and crafts around the room.

10:30 a.m. in the LBC Fellowship Hall

FamJam is a high-energy, interactive worship experience
for kids and their parents. The one-hour event will be
filled with music, sketches, comedy and stories as we
learn our place in Gods big story! Families will receive
take-home packs to reinforce the lesson too!

LBC Student Ministry

Student Ministry Families,

God has been so good to our Student Ministry. Journey Camp was incredible, as we watched
God work out great things in the lives of our students. There is nothing like watching hundreds
of students worshiping God and surrendering their lives to Christ. Thank you for your continued
prayers for this ministry.
I want to extend an invitation to any of the adults at Lexington Baptist Church: our students
are in need of small group leaders and mentors. They need adults who desire to love and
encourage them weekly. They need adults who want to be transparent and willing to sacrifice
time and energy for them. If you are sitting there and are not currently serving in our church,

Parents, this July is going to be jam-packed with great opportunities for your students. Every
Wednesday in July, we will be at Kevin and Andrea Kricks home for our annual Bible Study at
the Lake (181 Taylors Cove Rd, Lexington, SC 29072). Bring your middle or high school student
at 6 p.m., ready to study Gods word and enjoy some lake fun. Guys need to bring canned drinks
and girls need to bring snacks.

Wed like to extend an invite to the entire student ministry to
our Summer Bible Study on the Lake this summer. Were meeting at the Krick home every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m.;
guys bring canned drinks and girls bring snacks. The first week
well kick things off with a firework show that will take place
at dark and families are welcome to join in with us. This year
well be working through Kyle Idlemans book Gods at War.
Idleman, who is also known for his book Not a Fan, discusses the commandment that is often overlooked but is also the
one thats the most stressed in scripture: the battle for your
heart and the struggle with idolatry. You students may not be
creating wooden images in their rooms, but the struggle with
idolatry is real for most of us on a daily basis. This battle for
your heart will also define your life, so please be a part this
study this summer as we move forward into growing closer to
Christ together.

We are excited to let you know that Comedian Dennis Swanberg will be
performing at Lexington Baptist Church on Friday, August 21 at 7 p.m.
in our Worship Center as a part of our A Night of Humor & Hymns
event. Swanberg is called the Minister of Encouragement and has
been entertaining people with his stories and impressions for years.
If you have been to Jubilee in Gatlinburg, then youve probably seen
Dennis and are aware that he is a great entertainer.
Michael Lord will be performing that night,
as well. Michael is an accomplished singer/
songwriter and sings Southern Gospel music. While a part of the group
LordSong, he toured the country singing hymns and originals between
2000 and 2010. Michael currently speaks to Mens groups and uses
his outdoors ministry to reach men with the gospel of Jesus.
Tickets are $8/ each and are available for purchase on our website

When he was 22 years old, the
day after his college graduation,
Charles Billingsley packed up
his red two-door Ford Explorer, attached a little trailer behind it and headed to a church in Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina to perform his first professional concert. Two years after graduating from
Samford University, Billingsley joined Christian music group NewSong as their lead vocalist. In
1996 he moved on to begin his solo career. Charles is currently the worship pastor at Thomas
Road Church and artist-in-residence at Liberty University.

And He had to pass through Samaria. - John 4:4

In the Gospel of John, we find the account of Jesus encounter with the woman at the well.
However, the passage begins in an interesting manner. Jesus was traveling from Judea to Galilee.
Perhaps, the only reason any self-respecting Jew would have gone through Samaria would be the
need to travel a more direct route, but we know that Jesus was not in a hurry. In fact, Jesus and
his disciples remained in Samaria for days.
Perhaps as puzzling to a person of that day, would be why a Jewish man would be wasting his
time discussing the things of God with a Samaritan woman. In his book Any 3, Mike Shipman
describes Jesus encounter with the Samaritan woman as how to do evangelism. Of course,
we know that Jesus did not have to go through Samaria for some pragmatic reason. Jesus had to
go through Samaria because he was obedient to the will of His Father, and he had Good News for
the people of Samaria. Shipman states Witnessing well begins with obedience
to the Holy Spirits leadership.

Short-Term Missions
We still have several opportunities for short-term mission trips in the coming months:
New York City- We have our second team returning from NYC this month after serving with Global Gates
in a Sifting Week. If you werent able to serve on one of LBCs first two teams and would still like to be
part of a Sifting Week in New York City, we have one more team going in September.
Central America- Chuck McCurry will be leading two teams to serve in Central America this summer.
There is a family-oriented mission trip to Nicaragua in July, and that trip is at capacity. However, we
are also organizing another trip to Nicaragua for August. It is tentatively scheduled for the 8-16th.
Activities will include construction, VBS and some sports and recreation activities at the Managua
Christian Academy.

turn our mission focus to
our schools. Each year, our
great partner schools request assistance with some
much-needed
supplies.
Lists of these supplies
along with a collection area
will be set up in the LBC
foyer. Among many other
things, well also be recruiting mentors for these partner schools.

Hope

continuing to collect new and
gently used childrens items
to assist foster families in
our area. Additionally, if you
would like to get involved in
praying for, and coaching
families who are adopting or
fostering children or if you
are considering becoming
adoptive or foster parents,
Families of Hope meets
monthly and their next
meeting is on July 15th in
Room 201.
We ask that you continue to be mindful about food donations to LICS (Lexington
Interfaith Community Services). As we mentioned last month, donations are
usually down during the summer. We ask that you keep this in mind and be
especially intentional with filling those blue boxes in your Sunday School classes
and all around the LBC campus.
