Eczema/Allergies Diary

Estimated date that I stopped using topical corticosteroid is 20 th April. I uses

0.5% Beta Cream twice as directed which was use sparingly on affected area
twice a day for a maximum of 2 weeks.
3rd March

Donald Palmer

Advised to do a food elimination of gluten, dairy,

nightshades. Prescribed a strong steroid.

16th March

Food
elimination diet
started.

Gluten (inc. oats)

Dairy
Soy
Onion family
Nightshades (toms, potato, eggplant, capsicums,
chilli)
Corn
Nuts (exept almonds)
Some Fruit (citrus, bananas, strawberries)
Chocolate/cocoa
Egg
Fish/shellfish
This lasted for 3 weeks with no improvement at
all. However looking back I was not strict enough
and still had sauces etc that contained gluten
and the odd choc or coffee. I also began eating
oats before the end.
It was around this time that I started using UVB
lamp.

11th April

Rodney Ford

Skin prick and blood test. Advised to start eating

everything except gluten. Thought it was due to
a deficiency rather than an allergy. B12 or zinc
possibly.
Large order from iHerb

19th April

Supplements

Daily:
Multivitamin
Flax (omega 3)
Evening Primrose
Iron
Methyl B12
Zinc
Probiotics (until realising they contained traces of
gluten so stopped after about 2 weeks)
Hand continuing to spread and get worse.
Starting on other hand. No improvement, no let
up.

20th April

Start of TSW

This is an estimated date.

21st April

Blood results

Gluten intolerant and very low B12. B12

injections arranged
Immediately went 100% gluten free. Continued
to eat everything else inc lots of yoghurt.
It was around this time I began taking Loratidine
and noticed Neaves eczema getting much
worse.
Hand very bad. Wearing constant cotton gloves.
Continous cycle with blisters, itching and
cracking/peeling all at once.
Very hot and inflamed.

29th April

Donald Palmer

Back to see what else he could suggest. Believes

its to do with my liver function and suggested
eating foods to aid liver. Chamomile, sulphur,
keep liver warm, stay away from chilli. Gave me
the name of acupuncturist.
Swabbed and prescribed Crystaderm. Swab
confirmed a staph infection.
It was during the next few days I started to notice
a slow down in the cycle. My hand started to heal
before new blisters arrived. This was the first
time it had gone into remission for months. There
was a period of a few days when it was almost all
gone. I suffered a constant headache for about 4
days was even more fatigued and I started to
break out in strange red blister/pimples around
my right forearm and back of hand. There were a
few on my left hand. This continued for a few
days and the itch started to return.

29th April

Rodney Ford

Confirmed I carry the coeliacs gene and if I

continue to eat gluten may develop the disease
down the track.

30th April

John Ji Yiang

First acupuncture session. Said I have a

permeable gut, liver function problems and a
weak immune system. Told me to stay off dairy
and citrus and see him once a week for at least 6
weeks. Gave me herbal pills to take twice a day.
Around now the itch became unbearable, worse
than ever before and the cycle started again.
Perhaps slower and not quite as aggressive as
before, but very bad.

Neaves skin continues to worsen as does mine.

Cut all dairy and soy from Neaves diet and saw a
slight improvement for a few days.
8th May

John Ji Yiang

Second acupuncture session

9th May

Re-introduce
strict
elimination diet

Going through the motions with the dyshidrosis.

After some of my own research about leaky gut I
have decided I need to give my digestive tract a
chance to repair. Have therefore cut all grain.
Eating most fresh fruit and veg, lentils and a few
beans, nuts and seeds. Trying to incorporate
what fish or meat I can handle.
Will only eat food I prepare and avoid all
additives and preservatives.

11th May

Skin Prick for

Neave

Decided to do a skin prick test on Neave which

confirmed a peanut allergy and perhaps a slight
almond and sesame allergy. Cut all peanuts, not
almonds as they are too important in my diet.
Over the next few days Neaves eczema began to
disappear. Not inflamed and red anymore but dry
instead. Face almost all healed, still some on
torso and lower legs but not too bad.

15th May

Hand is healing. Almost all new skin with a few

patches of peeling/flaking.

16th May

Skin starting to itch. A few blisters already. Not

really any break between the cycles.

17th May

No change from yesterday

18th May

Not much change. Less flaking skin but starting

to itch a bit more. Left hand is very itchy.

19th May

Doesnt look any different today but very itchy.

20th May

No change

21st

Starting to see small bumps where it has been

itchy and noticed a slight thickening of the skin in
heal of hand.

22nd

Blisters, thickening, itchy continues

23rd

Hand continues to worsen. Started to crack with

dry thick skin.
Skin is thick and yellow and beginning to peel.

24th

This is the worst and most painful it has been in a

good couple of weeks.
Skin continues to crack and peel. Still spreading
further. Eczema on back of hand too. Other hand
gets very itchy. Red Skin Syndrome? Stopped
steroids half way through April I think.

25th

26th 28th

Terrible peeling and cracking. Very hot and

painful. Difficult to do things. Rash on back of
hand and a few spots on arms. Worst it has been
in weeks.

29th May

This has been the most painful day. Very dry,

cracked and inflamed. Hand is almost unusable
due to pain.

30th May

Starting to heal a bit. Cracks are healing and

hand is a lot more manageable than yesterday.
Its been nearly 6 weeks TSW

31st May
1st June

Same as yesterday
Started
supplements

Spirulina and digestive enzymes

Same. Still very painful cracks. Hard to use hand.
Needed to do a couple of Epsom soaks
throughout the day to make hand a bit more
comfortable and give it some flexibility.

2nd June

Stopped
moisturising

Most of hand healed and not flaking. One very

painful crack still to heal. First day that it has not
bothered me constantly throughout the day. Have
only moisturised once today which has been ok.
Come of the back of the worst flare Ive had.
Starting to itch again already however. Not much
of a break.

3rd June

Day 2 not
moisturising

Hand is extremely dry and flaky but surprisingly

comfortable. Goes through stages in the day of
being itchy and hot but on the whole feels better
than the past few days. A few small cracks.

4th 5th
June

Raw Diet

Hand same as before

Been trying to eat 50-75%raw food for the last
couple of weeks. Breakfast and lunch raw, dinner
usually cooked.

6th June

become red again. Extremely dry and

to play up as it always does at this time of year.

9th June

Day 8 No
moisturiser

Hand been very challenging

10-14th

No change, very sore

15th

Hand has been shedding skin and almost looking

a bit better.

16th June

8 weeks TSW
2 weeks MW

Back to itchy and very stiff and sore. Left hand

peeling and cracked too. Very uncomfortable and
extremely difficult to use my hands

20th June

Nearly 9 wks
TSW, 3 wks MW

Hand much better today. Quite comfortable. Most

of the hick dead skin has come off with new skin
coming through underneath. Very stiff and dry
but not painful. Itchy at times in different
patches. Can see some new blisters in places.

21st 24th

25th 28th

Been much more manageable and not very

painful. Stiff, dry and flaky and sometimes itchy
but not that mad itch that it sometimes is. Left
hand is 80% better with only a few small broken
patches.
8 days healing
and more
comfortable

Still not much change from last entry. Left hand

looks almost healed however. Sometimes itchy
but they havent really been bothering me much.
Not painful, just annoying. Definitely an
improvement.
This is the longest period of healing/regression to
date

29th June

30th June

10 wks TSW, 4
wks MW,
Starting again?
Started again

Itchiness is starting again on both hands after 9
