FACT SHEET

Approximately 4 million people in the UK suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome. The symptoms of
dry eye can be aggravated by prolonged visual efforts such as reading, working on the
computer and driving. Environmental factors such as low humidity, air travel, heating or air
conditioning and contact lens wear can also contribute or worsen dry eye.

Lagad Lacrima is designed to alleviate

Marginal Dry Eye Disorders and effectively
protect against the sensation of dry eye
Pack size 60 Softgels 2 Softgels per day
Lacrima Softgels are easy to swallow due to
their unique shape and the natural fish
gelatine coating

What is Lacrima
Lacrima consists of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids to improve the
nutrition of the cornea and maintain the comfort of the tear film.
Lacrima has a double action:

Lacrima promotes the production of tears through GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid) from
Borage oil and EPA, a polyunsaturated fatty acid Omega-3 oil from cold water fish

Lacrima promotes the fight against oxidative stress, which is both a cause and a
consequence of dry eye with alpha lipoic acid which is a powerful antioxidant found
in minute quantities in broccoli and spinach

The formula for Lagad Lacrima was developed based on the work of Ophthalmologists and
Nutritionists who specialise in research on dry eye.

LACRIMA INGREDIENTS & MODE OF ACTION

Lacrima effectively fights against ocular surface inflammation, which is the key mechanism
of ocular surface injury, as both the cause and consequence of cell damage.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY POWER OF GLA AND EPA

GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid) from Borage oil

Oral administration of GLA leads to a significant increase in tear concentrations of

the anti-inflammatory prostaglandin E1 that supports normal tear secretion. Lacrima
contains a high dosage of 40mg GLA
GLA is one of the rare good Omega-6 fatty acids

EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) Omega-3 fatty acid from fish oil.

EPA is a precursor to the anti-inflammatory eicosinoids, prostaglandin E3 (PGE3)

and leukotriene B5 which regulate and decrease the inflammatory processes
Eicosanoids raise meibomian secretions and indirectly promote the precorneal tear
film
EPA promotes prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) secretion and stimulates overall tear
secretion

EPA and GLA: Synergistic Action

GLA is rapidly converted to DGLA, which can be further metabolised to arachidonic acid, an
Omega-6 with pro-inflammatory effects. The addition of fish-derived Omega-3 EPA, in a
balanced ratio to GLA prevents elevations in serum arachidonic acid.
Co-ingesting EPA and GLA increases the cellular membrane content of both DGLA and EPA
(precursor).
This supplementation strategy successfully maintains the anti-inflammatory capacity
of GLA and increases serum EPA
THE SYNERGISTIC ACTIONS OF ALPHA LIPOIC ACID, VIT C & VIT E ANTIOXIDANTS
Alpha lipoic acid is a unique fat and water-soluble anti-oxidant

Alpha lipoic acid protects the ocular surface, namely the cornea and conjunctiva
against oxidative stress
It raises the goblet cell population density which increases the tear film stability
Alpha lipoic acid stabilises the precorneal tear film, which is essential to protect the
ocular surface against external aggressions (contact lens wear, preservatives,
smoke, air conditioning, air pollutants, UV....)
Alpha lipoic acid also promotes lachrymal gland secretions by modulating and
decreasing some of the key inflammation mediators
The dosage is high (100mg with good tolerance and low toxicity)

Vitamin C & Vitamin E

Vitamin C is the most abundant water-soluble antioxidant in tear fluid where it acts to
neutralise free radicals and helps recharge the antioxidant Vitamin E
Vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin, protects cell membranes against free radical attack

Clinical studies show that repetitive oral intake of Vitamins C and E significantly increases
the tear film stability.
The Synergistic Action
Alpha lipoic acid helps recharge antioxidants, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E. The
antioxidant power of this combination is much stronger.
Lacrima is a very effective formula against oxidative stress, which is always present with
Marginal Dry Eye Disorder. It is rare to find a formula with such ability.

MICROENCAPSULATED ZINC

Zinc is an essential trace element and is believed to play a role in maintaining the health of
the eye by protecting ocular tissues from age-related wear and tear.
Lacrima uniquely contains microencapsulated zinc

All other products on the market have zinc which is not encapsulated, which can lead
to oxidised fish oils

The benefit of Lagad Lacrima fish oil compared to oxidised fish oil are:
o No fish odour
o Preserved nutritional and organoleptic qualities
o Good polyunsaturated fatty acids are not transformed in bad trans fatty
acids
o Longer shelf life

Lacrima contains 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance of zinc.

PRICE
Lacrima is priced at 14.95
