Have No Place in American Politics Donald Trump is an insufferable racist. Trumps racially motivated tirade on Mexico and the Mexican culture during his presidential campaign announcement bordered on lunacy. His disparaging remarks came as the nation deals with racial tensions including the murder of black parishioners in South Carolina at the hands of a white supremacist. The buffoonery of his speech aside, Trumps vulgar contempt of Mexicans, MexicanAmericans and Latinos in general, is clear indication he is not a qualified presidential candidate whose campaign should be dismissed and is an embarrassment to our nation. His comments have been met with immediate negative reaction in the U.S. and across the border - as it should. With over 54 million Latinos living in the country, 31.8 million of whom are MexicanAmericans, Trump targeted a constituency of influence in American politics. Within days of the trash talk, Univision announced it would no longer broadcast the Miss USA pageant scheduled to air on July 12th, nor would the media giant associate with any other Trump organization projects. Latina actress Roselyn Sanchez, Chilean actor Cristian De La Fuente and Columbian singer-song writer J Balvin all announced their withdrawal from performing at the pageant. The Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce applauds the swift and direct actions these individuals and Univision have taken in order to prove a point race baiting does not divide people it brings us together. The silence from other GOP presidential hopefuls in not denouncing Trumps remarks also speaks volumes. As the second largest trading partner with the US, Mexico is a huge consumer of American goods to the tune of $240 billion a year. The LALCC strongly believes discrimination, disrespect and delusion has no place in American Politics and therefore asks our membership, our colleagues in business and our friends to boycott products, services and merchandise produced through the Trump organization. We further encourage a letter writing campaign to sponsors of the Miss USA pageant and UniversalNBC to reconsider their support and airing of the pageant and the Apprentice program as Mr. Trump has proven he is not a person of honorable character or integrity. As a community of Latinos we must raise our voices by way of our political clout, consumer power and through our business leadership and make those who would make
racially charged remarks against our community and culture aware such talk will not be tolerated. Together we can #DumptheTrump. Adelante!
