2 - Pipeline Connection & Repair Systems (PCRS)

B-CON Misalignment Ball Connector

The B-CON is designed for piping and
pipeline systems where the connector must
compensate for misalignment of the pipe. The
B-CON significantly reduces the time required
to install subsea pipeline connections
by providing a leak tight metal seal with
performance characteristics and versatility that
exceed those of welded pipe or conventional
flanges. While primarily intended for subsea
piping operations, the B-CON is a valuable
piece of equipment in any application (above
or below water) where misalignment of the
pipeline is a problem.
The unique design of the B-CON connectors
metal seal allows for up to +/-10 of
misalignment in any axial plane from the
centerline of the adjoining pipe (20 total
misalignment). The metal sealing criteria is the
same as that specified by ASME for the ringjoint flanges. Sealing integrity is maintained at
any angle of misalignment, with the seal being
insensitive to externally applied bending loads
at all operating pressures. It is actuated by
tightening of the bolts. The tightening locks the
ball member into the socket flange, creating a
rigid, static leak tight seal.
The B-CON meets all Applicable Codes and
Standards: ANSI, API, ASME and NACE and

it is available in stock from pipe sizes ranging

from 4-in Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) to 24-in
NPS and in pressure Classes 600 & 900. The
B-CON can also be supplied for any pipe size
and any pressure rating, upon request.

Swivel-Ring Flange
Oceaneerings Swivel-Ring Flange assembly
provides easy alignment of the bolt holes
during makeup to a common flange such as
those defined by ASME B16.5, MSS SP-44
and API 6A.
Alignment is an important and critical feature
when bolting subsea pipeline flanges together.
The outer ring flange of the Swivel-Ring
Flange assembly is held in position by a
retainer ring that freely rotates around the
inner weld-neck hub for quickly positioning the
bolt holes of the two joining flanges.

Smart Clamp - Diver Installable

Permanent Pipeline Repair Clamp

Oceaneerings Smart Clamp is a diver
installable split mechanical fitting used to
repair a damaged or leaking subsea pipeline.
The fitting eliminates costly pipeline shut
downs and expensive hyperbaric welding
associated with other repair methods.
The fitting is available in structural and nonstructural versions that provide pressure
containment to the pipeline within the
encapsulated area. The non-structural version
may be used to repair a pipeline that is
structurally sound and has only minor damage
such as pinhole leaks, local pipe wall thinning
or shallow dents. The structural version,
utilizing a grip and bowl mechanism, replaces
structural integrity in more severely damaged
pipelines with cracked girth welds, kinks, or
punctures.
After installation, the Smart Clamp design
provides a permanent high quality seal with
structural reinforcement extending for the
design life of the pipeline.

4 - Pipeline Connection & Repair Systems (PCRS)

Smart Clamp Design Features:

Viton-B circumferential and longitudinal
seals as standard, Buna-N (Nitrile) or
other elastomeric compounds can be
provided for compatibility with pipeline
contents or inhibitors
Elastomeric circumferential seals
are mechanically set, permanently
pressurized and fully restrained, mitigating
concerns of explosive decompression
effects for gas service
Seal extrusion guards for 12-in Nominal
Pipe Size (NPS) and larger when API
5L pipe outside diameters tolerances
become significant
Port for annulus testing, grout injection or
filling with inhibitor between the seals and
pipeline
Galvalum III anodes sufficient for 25-yr
design life
Externally coated with 3-part marine
epoxy
Hardened steel grips and bowls (structural
version) provide reinforcement to the
pipeline by transferring axial loads from
the pipeline into the body of the fitting,
effectively replacing structural integrity
and removing longitudinal stresses from
the damaged pipeline section
Internal components are securely retained
whether the fitting is open or closed,
before or after installation

Smart Clamp - Diverless

Permanent Pipeline Repair Clamp
The Diverless Smart Clamp is a split
mechanical / hydraulic fitting used to repair
a damaged or leaking subsea pipeline. The
fitting eliminates costly pipeline shut downs
and offers an alternative to hyperbaric welding
repair methods.
The fitting, available in structural and nonstructural versions, provides pressure
containment to the pipeline within the
encapsulated area. The non-structural version
may be used to repair a pipeline that is
structurally sound and has only minor damage
such as pinhole leaks, local pipe wall thinning
or shallow dents. The structural version,
utilizing a grip and bowl mechanism, replaces
structural integrity in more severely damaged
pipelines with cracked girth welds, kinks, or
punctures.
Diverless Installation
The Diverless Smart Clamp is lowered into
position just above the damaged pipeline
section that has been lifted off the seabed
using pipe lift frames. First, a Remotely
Operated Vehicle (ROV) intervenes through
a hot stab into one hydraulic coupling to
pressurize the cylinders in order to open the
clamp. The fitting is then lowered until the pipe
saddles contact and position on the pipeline.
An ROV utilizes the same dual port hot stab
and hydraulic coupling to depressurize the
cylinders to close the clamp. The body studs
are then tightened using an ROV modified
hydraulic torque wrench. The ROV intervenes
through the second hydraulic coupling to
simultaneously pressurize the actuator flanges
and set the grip and seal mechanisms of the
clamp. If the damaged pipeline section is not
leaking, ROV again intervenes through the
second dual port hydraulic coupling to perform
an Annulus Test to verify the sealing integrity
of the clamp. All the setting functions are
hydraulic and are operated via an ROV panel
with API 17D interfaces.

Smart Tap - Mechanical Hot Tap Fitting

Oceaneerings Smart Tap is a split mechanical

hot tap fitting that provides a necessary
flanged branch for hot tapping an existing
subsea pipeline and tying-in a new lateral
pipeline. The fitting eliminates costly pipeline
shut downs and expensive hyperbaric welding.
After tapping, the Smart Tap provides
permanent high quality sealing integrity and
structural reinforcement for the design life of
the pipeline.

before or after installation

Pressure-Balanced Breakaway Joint (PBBJ)

Oceaneerings Pressure-Balanced Breakaway

Joint (PBBJ) is a connector that separates if
an externally applied tension load exceeds
a preset value. Separation of the PBBJ at
the predetermined load is independent of the
pipeline internal pressure or external water
depth pressure.
The intentional separation of the joint prevents
overloading and costly damage to structures
to which the pipeline is attached as well as
protecting the pipe itself. Structures such
as platforms, risers, offshore tanker loading
installations, subsea production systems and
lateral pipeline tie-ins are protected from loads
often caused by anchor drags, mud slides,
iceberg scouring and violent sea states during
hurricanes.

The PBBJ design features include:

Completely factory assembled and tested
with preset separation loads up to the
values tabulated
Separation load can be easily changed
by an Oceaneering qualified technician
anytime prior to installation without
disassembly of any pressure containing
component
May be refurbished by Oceaneering after
separation
A split Locking Ring temporarily prevents
installation loads from separating the
PBBJ during pipe lay
Available with RTJ Flanged ends and with
one or both Upstream and Downstream
Check Valves

Piggable Wye Fitting

Oceaneerings Piggable Wye is a forged or

cast fitting that joins pipelines and permits
pigging from either inlet branch toward the
single outlet. The fitting utilizes a 30 inclusive
angle between the inlet bores, an industry
accepted intersection for reliable passage of
most common pipeline pigs.
The Piggable Wye is available in two

basic configurations, Symmetrical and

Asymmetrical.
The inlets and outlets of the basic
Piggable Wye terminate with a hub
prepared for butt-welding
The ends can also be supplied with pipe
pups for butt-welding or pipe pups with
flanges

Electrical Isolation Joint (EIJ)

Oceaneerings Electrical Isolation Joint (EIJ)

isolates the cathodic protection current in
a pipeline from other sources that can act
as current drains. These current draining
sources such as power plants, equipment,
steel reinforced concrete and other grounded
structures must be isolated in order to
achieve and maintain adequate, reliable and
economical corrosion control. The EIJ is
frequently used offshore to isolate the riser
from the jacket structure where a potential
difference exists between the two cathodic
8 - Pipeline Connection & Repair Systems (PCRS)

protection systems. It may also be used to

minimize galvanic action between pipelines of
dissimilar metals.
The Monoblock style design of the EIJ is
prefabricated, electrically tested and pressure
tested at the factory. This type of design
provides superior pressure containment and
mechanical strength. Dual elastomeric seals
are used to assure high quality long-term
pressure integrity and mechanically, the EIJ is
designed to be as strong as the pipeline.

Smart Vent Safety System

Oceaneerings Smart Vent Safety System is

specifically designed to provide efficient riser
repairs and to maximize the safety of workers.
The Smart Vent Safety System creates a safe
work site by venting any hazardous vapors
away from the workstation during pipe repairs.

The Smart Vent Safety System has a proven

track record of safe technology for riser
repairs. Customers worldwide utilize the
Smart Vent Safety System for ensuring
employee safety, competitive pricing, working
efficiency, and environmental protection.

Repairs utilizing the Smart Vent Safety

System can be executed without flooding
or purging the riser, eliminating the need to
handle or dispose of contaminated seawater.
The system maintains a large vent area that
ensures proper control of pressurization
and release of vapors. Potential damage
and environmental hazards resulting from
spills are minimized since hazardous fluids
are piped to a remote storage location.
The Smart Vent Safety System provides a
safe and economical solution to ventilation
requirements.
With the Smart Vent Safety System, testing
the entire line is not necessary if only the
last weld or mechanical connection requires
testing. The Smart Vent Safety System is
anchored, vented and available in all pipe
sizes. It can be used repeatedly without
redressing. For additional personnel
protection, the hydraulic pressure system is
monitored by an alarm that sounds warning
signals to alert workers in the event of a
pressure reduction.

Hydraulic Smart Flange (HSF) Connector

For deepwater pipeline and riser repairs,

Oceaneering PCRS offers a hydraulicallyset pipe end connector based on the
proven technology of the Smart Flange Plus
Connector. The connector is designed to
provide a structural connection point subsea.
When actuated, the Hydraulic Smart Flange
(HSF) Connector will structurally attach to
and seal against the pipe. Its capable of
withstanding full pipeline axial, bending, and
torsional loads while maintaining full line
pressure integrity.
The HSF may be provisioned with a Grayloc
male hub, a flange, or may be connected with
another HSF in a double arrangement, making
it a double grip and seal type connector.
The ROV uses a single hot stab to pressurize
the port in the connector in order to set the
gripping and sealing mechanisms on the pipe.
The HSF has dual setting pistons. During

the initial setting of the connector, the seal

piston is driven axially to set the main and
test seals around the pipe. The pressure is
then increased to drive the slip piston axially
in the opposite direction from the seal piston
to set the gripping mechanism on the pipe.
Both pistons are locked into final position by a
series of spring-energized ratcheting locking
mechanisms positioned radially inside the
connector housing. These locking devices
ensure a positive lock preventing any possible
back driving. An annulus test port feature
allows the sealing integrity to be confirmed by
pressurizing the annulus between the main
and test seals.
Hydraulic Smart Flange (HSF) Connectors
can be designed in sizes and pressure ratings
to meet any customer requirements. The
connectors are available in configurations with
other connectors and fittings.
